“There need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you . . . , he will richly bless you, if only you fully obey the Lord your God”
Today I was reminded of this after I read this on ODB, Our Daily Bread. I was in a hurry and saw a hunched over man at a stop sign with a well written plea for help for a disabled vet. I did not stop to donate and it bothered me later.
Could it be so simple, as we dwell on all the political drama and our own busy lives, that these big issues might not be so if we would only obey the Lord's commands.

"We need not choose between Jesus and the poor. We love people best by loving Him most, and loving Him most inspires us to love others best."
" In the first century bc, the Jews practiced what was known as prozbul, where a lender could transfer a personal loan to an institution or bank, making it exempt from the law of debt forgiveness in Deuteronomy 15. This attempted to encourage rich Jews to continue lending to the poor because it meant they’d still get their money back."
This law reminds me of the non profit organizations, giving for a reward, or a pay back, and thinking also that paying taxes allows the government to do what God asks us to do. So kind of fake generosity like the prozbul law.
So Lord Jesus, let us not forget to honor you, for you are kind to the poor and broken hearted, may we make time to do so to and stretch beyond our little world.
Lord Jesus you also asked us to pray for the government.
Lord Jesus we lift up President Trump, may he and his staff be vindicated and the insurrectionist be brought to justice.
In Jesus Name we pray, Amen!

Prayer For Justice For The Poor And Helpless
Loving Lord, thank You for the wonderful example of Your life, which was lived in spirit and truth. A life that demonstrated love as well as justice, a life that cared for all humanity, especially those who were weak or hurting or marginalised, or those who were sinking into a pit of despair or poverty.
Be close to all who are feeling the bitter winds of depression and scarcity their lives and uphold them with the warming breath of Your love and grace. Keep us we pray, from making wrong judgements about those that are suffering affliction or who have been overtaken by the challenges of poverty. Give us a wider perspective on life and a heart of compassion and kindness, especially on those that feel alone, unloved or uncared for.
May we become Your eyes and ears and may Your heart of love and grace flow through us to those that are in need. Look down in pity on all who are suffering loss, poverty or unjust discrimination at this time, and we pray that in Your best time Your justice will prevail in each of their lives. Thank You, Lord. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
