This is a true story, so I've changed the names a little.

Joey's mom was suffering from bipolar disease and was unable to care for him, so he ended up in the Foster Care System. While some Foster Parents are absolutely wonderful, Joey's experience wasn't so good. He was shunted from one place to another, and ended up in a family where the "biological" children were given music lessons, while the "foster" child wasn't. Since the state didn't provide funding for drum lessons, Joey had to teach himself. He had one pair of drumsticks and one record album, of a very famous Hark Rock Metal Band. (JFTR, the band had "IRON" in its name.). Joey played the grooves off the record, learning every riff, every beat, and every nuance of the drummer Nikko.

Joey got so good that , as an adult, he was able to teach. The teaching grew into an organization of teachers, including me. Joey got the idea of launching a charitable organization that taught Foster Children and Kids in Institutions. I helped obtain musical instruments for the kids and did a lot of the teaching as well.

Nikko, the drummer of the legendary Band, opened a BBQ Restaurant near me, and I frequented it, getting to know the famous Rock Star. I told him Joey's story, and he was so moved by it that he made a contribution to the organization and gave me a set of autographed drumsticks and a backstage lanyard from his Birthday Concert. I gave those items to Joey for Christmas.

Joey was absolutely stunned when he opened the package. They probably sit on his desk to this day, although I've lost contact with him since I moved to Massachusetts.

Nikko has officially retired from the band, as he had a stroke last year, but the BBQ Joint is still going strong as far as I know.

Most of you know that I had a big dissappointment with AAA last weekend. I pay $140.00 a year to include my Motorcycle in their Roadside Service, and they have totally let me down. As Blanche DuBois said in "A Streetcar Named Desire", I had to "rely on the kindness of strangers" when my Bike broke down last Friday.

Sometimes it seems that not a day goes by that we don't hear about abuses from "shepherds" whose job it is to take care of the sheep. Politicians and Priests, Ministers and Managers, Therapists and Theologians; they are all represented. It's very discouraging! Some of these "shepherds" are well rewarded for their neglect. They seem to be good at collecting their payments, premiums, and donations, but not so good at taking care of the sheep. It can be very discouraging, especially for the GOOD ones, whose reputations are tainted by the behavior of the bad ones.

As frustrating as this may be, it's nothing new. Ezekiel's indictment of the shepherds bullying the sheep, eating all the best food, and muddying the drinking water, is aimed at "The Shepherds of Israel".

Along with Power and Authority comes ACCOUNTABILITY.

This is something to remember when given authority and responsibility. Be a Faithful and Good Shepherd, as you grow in grace.
