I'd been trying to get on "JEOPARDY!" for years. Every year I would ace the initial test, but never got called for an audition. A friend of mine got on though, and was the highest scoring contestant when "FINAL JEOPARDY" came up. The Category was "The Torah". My friend, being an educated Jewish woman, bet everything she had earned on knowing the answer which had to be phrased as a question.

After the commercial break, the Winning clue was posted:

"THESE ARE THE TWO BOOKS OF THE TORAH IN WHICH THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE LISTED."

My friend knew the name of the first Book...Exodus...but what was the second one? Well, Ten Commandments, "Ten" is a number , so..." She wrote down:

"WHAT ARE EXODUS AND NUMBERS?"

She lost everything.

When she shared her humiliation with me, I replied that "Deuteronomy" means "The Second Reading" of the Law, in Greek. The most beloved prayer among Jewish People is based upon Deuteronomy Chapter 6, which is followed by the Ten Commandments.

Jesus often quoted the Torah, most notably the Book of Deuteronomy. While the first four Books of the Pentateuch are mostly narrative and/or a Reading of The Law, Deuteronomy reads more like a personal Memoir of Moses himself. There is a recap of the Exodus, told from the viewpoint of Moses, and then he shares his feelings about not entering The Promised Land. As Moses appoints Joshua as his successor, he also reviews and recites the Ten Commandments, and various other ordinances to guide the People in their new land. After many pages, Moses blesses the people with an Epic Song, before he bids them farewell and walks up the mountain alone to take one last look at the Promised Land before he is taken by God. Nobody knows where Moses "passed", or else there would be a big tomb or shrine there. We have already seen in History how these tombs and shrines can become cult centers for idolatry. It's better for everyone that nobody knows.
