“‘For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?’” (Matthew 6:25).
For Christians to worry is to be disobedient and unfaithful to God. Nothing in our lives, internal or external, justifies our being anxious when God is our Master.
Worry is basically the sin of distrusting the promise and providence of God, and yet it is a sin Christians commit perhaps more frequently than any other. In the Greek, the tense of Jesus’ command includes the idea of stopping what is already being done. We are to stop worrying and never start again.
The English term worry comes from an old German word meaning to strangle, or to choke. That’s exactly what worry does—it’s a type of mental and emotional strangulation that probably causes more mental and physical afflictions than any other single cause.
The substance of worry is nearly always extremely small compared to the size it forms in our minds and the damage it does in our lives. It’s been said that worry is a thin stream of fear that trickles through the mind that, when encouraged, will cut a channel so wide that all other thoughts will be drained out.
If worrying is a pattern in your life—stop now. In the days to follow you’ll learn why you should trust your Father and stop worrying.
Ask Yourself
Would you categorize yourself as a worrier? If so, what do you think has driven you to choose the perceived relief of worry over the actual relief of trust in God? If not, what has tipped your heart in favor of less worry and more confidence and contentment?

Best post ever! And it couldn’t have been posted at a better time! Thank you
It is stated, “ Worry is basically the sin of distrusting the promise and providence of God....” Not so; worry is the knowledge that Satan rules the earth, and nothing will be done to reverse human presence until first the Rapture and then the Tribulation transpire.
The reality for many Christians is that they lack faith/belief in certain areas, which can bring worry. Some people are bound or possessed by evil spirits. Some people, including Christians, are bound or possessed by ingrained habits or behavior - including 'worry'.
So, yes, we are called not to worry in all things but this is difficult for many. E.g., a parent's concern for their hurting child.
We are called to intercede and encourage those lacking faith and for those who worry.
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” – James 5:16
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” – Romans 8:26
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.” – Romans 15:1
I have known some chronic “worry warts”, & perhaps I was inclined to be one at one time in my life. Worry can be pretty hard to overcome, but it can be done & it will allow one to be much more at peace about everything. Trust God & you really can be at pece & not a worrier.
Post of the day! LOL!!
Excellent post.
Factors contributing to a constant state of worry, anxiety, defeatism, and demoralization are many. And the Internet is a massive one.
Yup... I stole That.
Something I have struggled with my entire life.
And, yes, this is timely for me as well.
Actually I agree that it is not trusting God.
Even though Satan rules the earth, he’s still on a tight leash and it is God who restrains him.
Philippians 4:4-7 addresses that:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I have difficulty with this one; I suffer with an anxiety disorder that makes me always worried.
That’s a tough situation.
Ever since I was truly aware of the issue it’s been a struggle, but with medication and prayer I get along ok.
I understand that some anxiety disorders are caused by the body physically releasing too much adrenaline or cortisol etc. I imagine in this case it’s not all sin to be anxious. In that case perhaps learning a more godly response to the oversupply would be the ticket.
Certainly so. I struggle with that too. Always working on it, as are the rest.
It sure helps to have Blessed Assurance.
