CV NEWS FEED // A day after CatholicVote reported that The Hill had published a column identifying a flag of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as “a symbol associated with the Christian right wing, specifically used to protest Pride,” the publication erased that claim from the column without noting the change.
The practice of editing out controversial passages without acknowledging the correction in an editorial note is commonly known as “stealth-editing.”
Nick Robertson originally wrote in his column: “The Sacred Heart of Jesus flag is a symbol associated with the Christian right wing, specifically used to protest Pride.”
As of mid-afternoon the day after the column was published, that passage was changed to the following: “The Sacred Heart of Jesus flag has been used by some opponents of gay rights to protest Pride and LGBTQ rights in general.”
The Hill’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Joe Ruffolo did not respond to CatholicVote’s enquiry about the edit on Wednesday.
The Catholic veneration of the Sacred Heart, CatholicVote reported Tuesday, “is in fact a centuries-old devotion associated with the 17th-century visionary St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.”
CatholicVote’s report continued:
Nick Robertson’s June 10 Hill article reported on complaints from figures on the political left about the flags flown at the homes of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his wife, Martha-Ann Alito.
The Alitos have been the target of attacks from secular news outlets such as The New York Times, which argued that an upside-down American flag and an “Appeal to Heaven” flag flown at the Alitos’ private residencies are “provocative symbol[s]” linked to the events of January 6, 2021. Some participants in those events carried these flags.
In an article debunking calls for Alito to recuse himself from cases, legal expert Margot Cleveland pointed out that it was Alito’s wife Martha-Ann who raised the upside-down American flag.

Here is last year's FR thread for this article:
The Hill ‘stealth-edits’ column that claimed Sacred Heart is anti-pride, right-wing symbol
As the Democrat Party with its liberal, progressive pronouns says, “Isn’t it wonderful that we live a country with a Pride Month and only a Veteran’s Day”.
I'll take a wild guess and say that St. Margaret Mary was against all of the seven deadly sins, not just against pride.
Satan doesn’t take a vacation.
Last June, in my part of Los Angeles, the parking meters were festooned with rainbow ribbons.
I am not Catholic, but from doing a little reading I learned that a month of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus started in 1790 in France during the French Revolution.
So, Pride People, everything is not about you, except for this: look at that flag and behold your Redeemer.
I’m not Catholic but thinking about getting on of those shirts to show my solidarity with the Catholics.
Man, is this world effed up.
The Hill may as well be Media Matters.
Excellent. That article deserves its own thread.
I *HATE* pride month.
It literally sickens me to see so-called churches hanging pride flags out front. The first time I saw it, just disgusted me to a depth that kind of surprised me.
Now I cringe but feel no less revulsion.
We have our Sacred Heart flag and will be hanging it out on June 1st.
God bless you!
Gross. And to think that by and large, this is an enforced “celebration” of men ramming their private parts into literally a poop-filled sewer pipe, and then going from there. . .
You noticed? Lolol!
