The pastrix of Downey Avenue Christian Church—a church and a denomination that is anything but Christian—compares the explicit novel, The Color Purple, to Scripture, calling it “holy and inspired.” Not metaphorically. Not emotionally. No, she literally calls it a “sacred text.” Because apparently, in her world, Alice Walker and the Holy Spirit are co-authors now.
“When the Bible was bound and written and put together, the inspiration of the Spirit did not cease,” she preaches, as if divine revelation is still trickling in through Broadway playbills and Oprah’s Book Club. Forget the apostles—apparently, the real prophets are writing musicals now.
She tells her congregation to “look for the holy and divine in sacred text that continues to be written…” in a sexually explicit book that depicts rapce, incest, and lesbian relationships. If it tugs your heartstrings and checks enough identity boxes, it’s basically the fifth gospel. Maybe next week she’ll exegete Dreamgirls like it’s Romans.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Who goes to these ‘churches’?
People who say they aren’t religious, but ‘spiritual’.
It’s gonna rain on her head.
That figures.
“Lady Pastors” are like same-sex marriages: fraudulent.
Someone should tell her that the works of William Buckley and Thomas Sowell are inspired.
She probably thinks men who are surgically altered to look like dogs - are dogs. It’s the democrat crap about how we’re all seven years old and magical. Sorry Bimbo, but saying it doesn’t make it real.
I believe this “Lady Pastor” needs a heavy dose of pasteurization.
>>Who goes to these ‘churches’?
Not people you’d enjoy joining for tea.
Sounds a lot like someone trying to get attention by being shocking. It’s amazing how slow some people are to grow up from those teenage years all of us went through.
Well, isn’t that special?
Pastorix...is that even a word?
Like, I’ve been in hospital.
I had my pastorix removed!!!🌧️

Both of them !!!
I haven’t read the book. I do remember seeing the movie a long time ago, but I don’t recall enough about it to make a judgement. There is existential truth that can be found in literature. It is not on the level of Scripture, and she should know better than that, but I suspect there are a lot of things in that category with her. She mispresents the value of literature, and she degrades Scripture.
Well, she can just continue in her sin until she drops dead. I don’t care anymore. Let them die and let them burn.
The new religion: “Do what you want.”
Pastrix is a synonym of pastoress, translated from Latin as "shepherdess".
Rev. Marty would be so proud.
I’ve read it, and it’s very engaging, and there are some themes about forgiveness in it. One of the characters becomes a missionary in Africa. It’s really a good read. I was never tempted to read it again, but I was certainly engaged the one time I did read it.
BUT... it’s just a novel, it’s not a new Bible, and this lady is a bit silly.
