Christians Shut Down by HOA

A Florida Home Owner’s Association (HOA) is preventing a ministry from hosting a veterans fundraiser solely because the hosting ministry is a Christian organization.

Unfortunately for the HOA, their decision violates the Fair Housing Act which expressly prohibits discrimination based on a person or organization’s religious views.

Liberty Counsel is now involved, and we intend to put an immediate STOP to this latest outrageous attempt to discriminate against Christians.

Fund the fight for religious liberty by supporting our legal fund. Every donation made today will be DOUBLED in impact by a special Challenge Grant.

Music for Life Ministries had an agreement to hold a Christmas fundraiser concert benefitting the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, a charity for the families of soldiers and first responders injured or killed in the line of duty. The concert was to be held at Kings Point Veteran's Theater, located in the Sun City Center 55+ master planning community, just south of Tampa, FL.

But when the HOA’s theater manager realized Music for Life was sponsoring the fundraiser, he cancelled the agreement solely because Ministries for Life is a Christian organization.

The HOA venue manager told Music for Life Ministries he believes that because a religious ministry is hosting this veterans benefit, the event would somehow “deceive” attendees.

The venue manager continued, stating the HOA was “bringing back an old rule” which prohibited renting the community center theater to ANY religious organization.

Music for Life reiterated that this benefit is NOT religious in nature but held in conjunction with one of the country’s best known veteran charities. But the HOA venue manager didn’t care. He insisted that because Music for Life Ministries has the word “ministry” in its name, the event must be cancelled.

But the HOA event manager’s decision is against the law.

yeah...I was just looking at potential new houses that were closer to my daughter’s place. One really nice place, money was about right, distance, age, etc....

Then I got to the dreaded line: HOA

Moved right on past it at that point. Shame.

When we were house hunting the immediate disqualifier that trumped everything else was *HOA*.

There were other criteria that we needed, such as must have internet (for mr. mm’s work) and not close to the road, but the HOA was the biggest one by far.

Liberty Counsel is one of several good organizations that I have supported at times over the years. I am currently supporting Alliance Defending Freedom, but there are several good groups worth supporting out there.

You must like your next-door neighbors having weeds growing up around their 2 wrecked cars up on blocks in their front yard and their pink garage door. Yes. HOA’s can be a pain, but local ordinances don’t always prevent ugly neighbors.

Long as they keep their stuff on their side of the property yard they can live as they please. I have 4 views on my property and can ignore my neighbors yard if they decide they don’t feel like mowing or want to work on their cars. It’s THEIR property. Freedom/Liberty don’t mean administrative dictates.

Often times someone in that situation actually needs help..so you ask if everything is ok. You don’t complain, you don’t offer help, you ask if everything is ok or how they are doing. That’s what good neighbors do - they don’t judge, they extend a hand but allow that the other will accept it only when they chose.

I was cited by the city once for not mowing my lawn - I had broken my arm - they didn’t care....the bureaucrats never do. An HOA is an unelected bureaucrat who thinks they S*(# doesn’t stink and everyone needs to comply with what they say.
