JD Vance's Vatican visits center his Catholicism in his vice presidency
NBC ^ | May 18, 2025 | Henry J. Gomez

After leaving the Marines and beginning his higher education, Vice President JD Vance drifted into atheism — struggling, he would eventually write, with feelings of “irrelevance” in his faith and with “a desire for social acceptance among American elites.”

Vance, who later converted to Catholicism, this weekend made his second trip to the Vatican in less than a month. On the first visit, Vance met with Pope Francis on Easter, hours before he died. On Sunday, Vance led a U.S. delegation at the inaugural Mass of the first U.S.-born pope, Leo XIV…The vice president scored a prime seat in the first row.

The White House was eager to frame this weekend's visit in historic terms.

“Pope Leo XIV is the first American Pope. Vice President Vance is the first Catholic convert to serve as Vice President,” Vance’s office emphasized when announcing the trip.

After landing in Rome at sunset on Saturday night, Vance’s motorcade first sped to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, where he and the second lady paid their respects at Francis’ tomb.

At the Catholic prayer breakfast in February, Vance noted his interfaith marriage to Usha, who is Hindu, and how they are raising their three children Catholic while allowing them to decide when to be baptized. He said his most exciting moment last November — the month he was elected vice president — was when his 7-year-old son chose to be baptized.

While wrestling with Leo’s politics in an interview with conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt, Vance offered a nuanced answer and said he prefers “not to play the politicization of the pope game.”

…Joining Vance in Rome and at the Vatican this weekend was Father Henry Stephan, the priest who baptized him in 2019.

What the story doesn’t mention that is that JD graciously included Lou Prevost (aka the pope’s MAGA brother) as part of the official delegation.

With further Arabic Islamic investment in America to the tune of hundreds of billions, we will need to strengthen our Christian institutions in America, because those billions will bring Islamic immigration and thousands of Islamic cultural centers.

Today we see how this Islamic cultural invasion of America has effected our colleges and Universities in fomenting pro Palestinian politics, and the politics of Semitic genocide.

Glad Vance is ahead of the curve.

The worst thing America can do is to allow islam to gain a foothold in our politics. Muslime will never assimilate and if able they will destroy the Constitution.

I am glad our VP is a believer, I just wish he would join a real Christian church that worships Christ instead of Mary, a Pope, and a bunch of so called Saints. Not to mention pretty little alter boys.

You are right I th.ink we will have many more Islamic cultural centers and organized Islamic societies that mutually contract to live by Sharia Law. These methods take advantage of the private jurisdictions allowed in many states for “arbitration” as remedies to aggrieved parties in civil law affairs. The arbitration organization is set up state wide by mullahs and as a result issues among Muslims are “arbitrated “ pursuant to Sharia Law,instead of the Constitutuion of The United States.

IN this way Sharia regimes that violate the amendments to the Constitution ( freedom of speech, freedom of religion, forced marriage/establishment of multiple wives, freedom to marry outside ones religious community etc), are implemented and the result us that the Arabs fail to become Americans, they form discrete , isolated centers of Islam that are not absorbed into the American melting pot. When their numbers get large enough, they use violence, protest, and guerilla warfare to take over civil society.

I am not criticizing Trump for getting the investments that America needs, but at the municipal , county and state government level, we must assure that we do not establish “sanctuary cities” which operate according to Sharia Law.Arab money ALWAYS comes with those strings attached. ALWAYS.Look at the results of so called Islamic Study centers at many of our colleges and universities. The result has been huge anti-semitic protest and persecution of Jews on our college campuses.

You bet I am concerned. So is Mark Levin.

President Trump has already gotten that message from us.

As a latent Catholic, born into the religion that my parents and their parents before them practiced... I have a great deal of respect for those who choose to convert to Catholicism as adults. They do so knowing the high morality and devote lifestyle that is expected of them.

It’s not everybody’s cup of tea.

What you say about VP Vance's religion, you say about mine. I'm a Catholic. My Church teaches me to worship Christ alone. Not Mary, not the Saints. Unless you have something intelligent and decent to say, keep your sewer anti-Catholicism to yourself. There are enough ignorant anti-Catholic bigots around. And learn to spell "altar" correctly while you're at it.

Ditto.

a real Christian church

Hey, Tony, we're the "real Christians" who canonized and preserved your Bible, kept the Muslims out of Western Europe for 1000 years so that you can be a "real Christian" instead of kneeling with your hind end up in the air 5 times a day toward Mecca, and fought off all of the first millennium heretical movements that denied or minimized either the Trinity or the Deity of Christ. If it weren't for us "real Christians," you probably wouldn't be a "real Christian" either. Try not to forget that.

Indeed. Various Christian Denominations may disagree on points of doctrine and practice, but we, along with our Jewish FRiends have a common enemy.
