"Teenage Existential Angst" seemed to be at its peak in the 1960's, in music, movies, and the books we chose to read. As time went on , and we looked back, some of us grew up. Tom Petty satirizes this "T.E.A." in his song "Into The The Great Wide Open". The song chronicles the rise and Fall of a Rock Star, and calls him "A Rebel Without a Clue". Eddie, the protagonist in the song, "plays from the heart", which rockets him to stardom much too fast and furious for him. His Fall is just as precipitous, and he ends up with nothing.

Those of us who remember the 50's and 60's will recall the rebellious movies that are quoted in the Song and the Video, "Rebel Without A Cause" being the most obvious. We also read books about "T.E.A.", such as "The Catcher In The Rye", which, according to Wikipedia, influenced at least two assassins.

While most of us may say that it's just "Art" and can't be blamed for the reactions of lunatics, remember that Modern-Day Internet Personalities call themselves "Influencers". Evidently, this is considered a valuable "profession", as Influencers get a lot of money and celebrity.

Whatever the pundits might say, Popular Culture does indeed "influence" people. As we are bombarded by advertising Day and Night, and have to install Ad-Blockers on our computers just so that we can read an email without interruption, Spoofing, Spamming, Scamming, Trojans, Viruses, and Advertising flood our inboxes. We do what we can to repel these invasions, but pretty soon, we develop a "Heart of Stone".

Is the Heart of Stone a response to rebellion, or is it rebellion itself? I suppose it can be both, but it's there, no matter who you are. However, when we close our hearts to the Spams and Scams, we can also close it to Grace and Truth.

The Prophet Ezekiel spoke of this "Heart of Stone" over 2500 years ago, so it's nothing new. He speaks of the Heart of Stone being replaced with a "Heart of Flesh". A "Heart of Flesh" is receptive to Grace and Truth, and exhibits the Fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Faith, Patience, Goodness, Kindness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

With The Holy Spirit, one is no longer "A Rebel Without A Clue", or a "Holden Caulfield".
