Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name over All The Earth!
The Heavens Declare Your Glory,
And All of Your Creation Sings Your Praises!
Holy, Righteous, Just, and True,

One of the major contenders for the Academy Awards this year was a movie called "The Brutalist". I have not seen it, but, from various reviews, I can conclude that it's LONG (3.5 hrs), Boring, and Depressing. That makes it a PERFECT Candidate for BEST PICTURE.🤔. It did get three Oscars, but fell short of the BIG ONE.

The movie was about an Architect, but bears no resemblance to another "Architect Movie" called The Fountainhead. Although we had a lot of old movies growing up (Dad had his own Projectors and we frequently had "Movie Night" long before there were VCR's) we never had "The Fountainhead" because Mom didn't like Gary Cooper. She didn't like Ayn Rand either, so I didn't see the movie till many years after reading the book.

The movies were vastly different, but they had one common thread. Both had a Protagonist who was a struggling, misunderstood, Architect. While the Architect in "The Fountainhead" embraced his own Individualist Style, refusing to lay his foundations on the styles of the Past, the Architect in "The Brutalist" rejects "style" altogether to produce buildings that were overpowering and oppressive like the name suggests. Even though the term "Brutalist" seems to describe the appearance of this kind of Architecture, the name is derived from the French Word for Undressed Concrete, which was the main material used in this type of building.

Boston City Hall is a perfect example of "Brutalist Architecture". This "style" was very popular in the USA in the 1960's, but it bears an unsettling resemblance to Stalinist Architecture of the 1930's.

I love the study of Architecture, but I'm not fond of Brutalism, Stalinism, or even the fake Classicism with excess ornamentation that so aggravated Howard Rourke in The Fountainhead. I prefer clean, elegant lines, symmetry, and understatement. (NO fake plastic pillars!).

In the Movie King David (1985), the King, played by Richard Gere, shows his son Solomon an Architectural Model of his plans for The Temple. Critics howled with hilarity over this scene, saying that it was an anachronism. An Ancient King, with a big Architectural Model of the Temple? Ha Ha Ha! How silly!

But today's Passage infers that such a scene may have actually taken place. King David wanted so much to build a House for the Ark of the Covenant, but God had other plans. He shared those plans with David, so that David could commission his son Solomon to complete the project. The Holy Spirit conveyed the Plans, complete with all the Materials that would be needed, and when the process that would begin.

David could go to his final rest in peace, knowing that his Dream would be Accomplished by his son.
