Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Wonderful and Magnificent is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The Most High!
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
And Omnipresent,
You Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from the End.
We Bless Your Name and Thank You,
Most Gracious and Hallowed LORD,
For Your Holy Word.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

All summer long, Tippy The Cattle Dog sits on my bed and gazes intently out the window. The view isn't particularly inspiring, as it is the side of my neighbor's tool shed. Nevertheless, Tippy would sit there every day, occasionally interrupting her vigil with an hysterical bark and a case of the "Zoomies"

Determined to solve the Mystery of the Vigil/Zoomie Cycle, I sat with her for nearly an hour, gazing at the side of the shed.

Then it happened. A fat, adorable Groundhog poked his nose out from underneath the shed, looked both ways, and dashed out of his den. Tippy went berserk. She did her usual barking, tail-chasing, 100 mph Zoomies right before my eyes. Mystery Solved.

Winter has descended upon Massachusetts in earnest, and snow is blanketing the area around the Tool Shed. There are no tiny footprints in the snow, so evidently the groundhog is hibernating. Tippy watches in vain, but is enjoying the bright rays of the low winter sun. If the Groundhog DOES venture out this morning, he will see his shadow, meaning six more weeks of this icy, cold Winter!

The rather silly rituals of "Groundhog Day" were the basis of a very funny movie made in 1993.

The plot is a variation on "A Christmas Carol" with a Scrooge-like character being forced to relive one day in his miserable life until he repents.

His "repentence" is brought about by his abject FEAR that he will never escape the "Time Loop of Karma" in which he has become trapped. The Movie has given us a new meaning of the term "Groundhog Day" in everyday speech. It is a metaphor for making the same mistake over and over again without gaining any insight...a form of mental illness.

Speaking of mental illness, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has denounced groundhog Day as "cruel" and proposes that we replace the groundhog with a rainbow-themed CAKE. (I am NOT making this up!) I have provided a link as proof.

All three of these stories can be added up and related to Religion. keep reading and I'll explain.

1. Mystery Religion: Tippy performs a ritual everyday. She sits vigil in the window waiting for something to happen. When she sees the Groundhog, she goes nuts, and has the Zoomies. Then she goes back to her watch and awaits the next "manifestation". Her "religion" is based upon ascribing supernatural origins for natural occurrences. If you think this is too primitive for Modern Times, check out the crowd at Stonehenge awaiting the Summer Solstice every year.

2. The Prison of Karma: In the Movie "Groundhog Day" we see a mean-spirited jerk relive the same day over and over until he has a moment of insight. This is somewhat like the Eastern Principle of Karma, but the religion is much more cruel than the movie. In the movie, it's only ONE DAY that is relived. In Karma, its WHOLE LIFETIMES that have to be repeated over and over until you get it right. Thank God we are appointed ONCE to die, and after that, the Judgment. (Hebrews 9:27). It is possible to "get in right" in just one lifetime, because ALL things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26).

3. Worship of the Created Thing Rather Than of The Creator: This False Religion is explained in Paul's Letter to The Romans. In Chapter One, Paul explains how, when people worship the created rather than The Creator, they lapse into Idolatry and dissolute living. PETA has made bank on our love of God's Creatures by making them more important than Human Beings. While "Groundhog Day" may just be a silly bit of fun to bring a little levity on a dark winter morning in February, PETA has floated the idea that it is somehow CRUEL. Just STOP IT. It may be stupid, but I'm sure the Groundhog is not harmed in any way. In fact, I'll bet he's richly rewarded for his little performance. Good Grief!

All of the above focus upon our fears. Fear of the unknown, fear of death, fear of the winter never coming to an end. The "spirit of fear" is NOT from The One True God.

God tells us that "Perfect Love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). The Holy Spirit imbues us with the Spirit of Love.

We are not "powerless" against the forces of Nature, fate, or Karma. The Holy Spirit gives us The Spirit of Power.

Last, but certainly not least, we do not have to fall prey to craziness disguised as "compassion", "fairness", or fake "righteousness". The Holy Spirit gives us His "Spirit of a SOUND MIND".

Happy Groundhog Day! :-)

Psalm 67

To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us,
Selah
2 that your way may be known upon earth,
your saving power among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.

4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth.
Selah
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.

6 The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, has blessed us.
7 May God continue to bless us;
let all the ends of the earth revere him.
