Holy and Righteous God,
How easy it is to slip away from You when we fail to honor Your Word and Your truths. Lord, forgive us of our weaknesses. Only with You and through You can we have the strength to stand for what is good and true. We ask You to help us always to preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; for only then can we be useful and faithful to You and Your Kingdom.
Father, we grieve with the families who lost their loved ones in the recent air disasters. Please comfort all those who have experienced such tremendous loss. Surely You are the God who strengthens them, Who helps them, Who upholds them with Your righteous right hand. We know that You are the God Who will supply all the needs of these grieving families. Help us to continue to pray for them during these harsh days of uncertainty and sorrow.
Holy God, we are so grateful for our President and the new administration he is assembling. Some of the new cabinet members have already had to face tremendous challenges as they deal with the recent horrific accidents and decisions that must be made. We ask for You to continue to give all of them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and of might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Thank You, Lord, for fully equipping each one of them. We pray special protection over all those involved in the deportation efforts. May You give Your angels charge over each one who has been sent forth to enforce the laws of our country.
Lord, may our nation stand strong in its support of Israel. Those who know Your Word understand the consequences of turning our backs on them---especially in their time of need. May we always bless Israel through our prayers, our support, and our obedience to Your commands to do so.
Precious Lord, make us imitators of You as Your beloved children. Father, give us the courage and boldness we need to make a difference in this dark world. We are the only representatives of Your love that some people will ever see. Help us, Lord, to be the salt and light that You have called us to be. In the Name of Jesus Christ, we humbly ask these petitions, knowing that You will surely answer us. Amen.
Please join us in prayer this Lord’s Day.

The Meeting of our Lord (Orthodox New Calendar)
Kontakion
By Your birth, You sanctified a virginal womb, / and fittingly You blessed Simeon’s hands, O Christ God; / even now You have saved us by anticipation. / Grant peace to Your faithful people whom You have loved, O only Lover of mankind.
Luke 2:25-32
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation
31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”
