Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago opposes Trump plan for deportations
As President-elect Donald Trump is just days away from returning to the White House, American Catholic leaders are denouncing his immigration agenda. Chicago’s powerful Cardinal Blase Cupich warned in a recent interview that U.S. bishops “are going to have to be prophetic and denounce any abuse of human dignity that may occur” as Trump rolls out his mass deportation program. “We are going to be vigilant and we are going to defend the human dignity of immigrants,” Cupich said. The cardinal called deportation plans “intolerable, especially in a country where we are all immigrants. I am a product of immigration!”
Over the past decade, the USCCB and groups like Catholic Charities have collected over $2 billion from the U.S. government for migrant and refugee “services.”
Cupich’s comments follow those of Cardinal Robert McElroy, the newly-appointed archbishop of Washington, D.C. In a press conference last week, McElroy anticipated conflict with the incoming Trump administration on the issue of immigration and deportations. “In terms of what issue would I see coming forth in the life of the church that might be in contrast with some of the priorities the president-elect has been talking about, a large one, of course, is immigration,” the cardinal said. He claimed that “plans” for “wider, indiscriminate, massive deportation across the country would be something that would be incompatible with Catholic doctrine.”

A far more Catholic understanding of and approach to immigration is evinced by Trump’s incoming “border czar,” former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan. In an interview with Tucker Carlson last month, Homan described why he came out of retirement for a second time to join Trump’s administration. “When you lose the border, trafficking and sex trafficking’s gonna skyrocket, child deaths will skyrocket, migrant deaths will skyrocket, American deaths will skyrocket,” the immigration official said. He continued, “I love this country. I want to save some lives. Secure borders save lives. So I’m gonna come back, do what I can.”
Their NGOs were behind this invasion to begin with.
They should ALL be charged with human trafficking....the whole damn bunch.
yeah. all of which Catholic Charities is funding.
why does CC continue to exist?
I no long GAF what the Church has to say
Has anyone ever heard ANYONE in a leadership position take a different position on Illegal Immigrants?
I wonder what it means that they have to be prophetic. They have to predict the future? It’s a big request.
* longer ...
not to be confused with Gospel however
Tax the Church!
Blaise Cupich has been a HUGE disappointment to faithful Chicago Catholics. Left wing to the max, he failed to keep the churches open during the pandemic and has presided over the closures of so many parishes that the Archdiocese is barely functioning. He seems to spend an inordinate amount of time raising funds to settle clerical abuse scandals.
The Bishops need to start paying their “fair share” of taxes to help pay for their pew fillers.
Not only that, but the Roman Catholic Church is popular in Latin America. Latin Americans coming into U.S. means U.S. becomes more Catholic. It’s the RCC’s attempt to try to restock the pews.
Meanwhile the FBI investigates those who attend TLM and the Bishops are quiet.
It would be nice if they cared about Catholic US citizens, but hey, neither does the democrap party.
Of course they do. The US Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities NGOs have received hundreds of millions of dollars shuttling illegals across the Mexican border into the interior of the United Staten.
Raised a Catholic, but I was born with common sense. The current Pope and his gaggle of Cardinals & Bishops can FO.
To help with declining congregations, the illegal migrants represent a boost to the Catholic Church. In later years they will represent needed money.
“We are going to be vigilant and we are going to defend the human dignity of immigrants,”
I noticed the “good” Cardinal Robert McElroy, the newly-appointed archbishop of Washington, D.C. failed to mention the dignity of rape victims, murdered victims, tortured victims, robbed victims, sexually trafficked victims many of which are children, 100 thousand deaths from fentanyl each year victims, people living in fear victims on our border and rapidly spreading to all major cities. Where are the victims dignity, Cardinal McElroy?
My “once church” the Catholic Church has lost its way under the present pope. Our present pope is guided by political philosophy and not religious doctrine of the church. He is destroying the Church. I do not know if the church will survive this pope. I left the church.
Circa 1962, in South Louisiana father Fauci was our priest. He was a good man. He preached as a priest should about religion, it relationship to us now and good and bad. Politics never entered his sermon.
That good priest would also go to JCs bar and restaurant for a beer but not in excess. I doubt he ever paid for one beer as we always paid for him. His money was no good there.
He was a good priest.
Very.
