Our Lord and Heavenly Father
You are The Truth,
And, By Definition, There Is Only One Truth,
And Everything Else is a Fantasy,
A Legend, or a Lie.
The Truth is Eternal,
It Does Not Change With the Fashions of Time.
You Are The same Yesterday, Today, and Forever,

Right now, many of us are glued to our TVs watching the coverage of the LA Fires. It is said that this is the Worst Fire in US History. Already there are 13 reported deaths, and thousands of structures have been leveled. Videos from the area are more frightening than anything Hollywood could produce.

Because everybody seems to have a Smartphone these days, we are seeing phenomena we had no idea even existed, like tornadoes made of Fire. I saw several videos of these "Firenados" yesterday. The horror I experienced was palpable, but I couldn't turn my eyes away. I had been so cranky earlier, because I have a cold, have to shovel out my car from the snow, and had to miss my sister's gig last night because of the snowstorm, and then I saw the Firenados on TV, and realized that my predicament was not so terrible after all.

Naturally, everybody is blaming everybody else for the Fire. Democrats are blaming Republicans, and Republicans are Blaming Democrats. Opponents of D.E.I are blaming the Proponents. Incumbents are Blaming Contenders, and Contenders are Blaming Incumbents. Environmentalists are Blaming Farmers, Farmers are Blaming Environmentalists, and everybody is blaming the Politicians. Millionaires and Movie Stars are setting up "Go Fund Me" pages while the residents of North Carolina are still living in tents after Hurricane Helene.

Of Course, there is the Big Question that's floating around:

"Why did God allow this to happen?"

Some are even speculating that this is God's Judgment on Hollywood, but that doesn't explain the thousands of people who are just living normal lives and have lost everything.

One thing is clear. Water that should have been stored for wildfires, (which occur every year with the Santa Ana Winds), was allowed to just be lost in the Pacific Ocean. Forests and Chaparral were allowed to grow wild, brush wasn't cleaned out, and the Municipal Departments were more concerned with meeting quotas than with the merits of their applicants. The Reservoirs and Fire Hydrants were DRY. Those are just the facts. Conspiracy Theories may arise about the actual cause of the fires themselves, but the helplessness of the government to contain the fire is on record. It's going to take a long time to recover from this one.

In Jesus's time, there was no shortage of natural and Man-Made Disasters. Evidently the lead story of the day was Herod massacring a group of protesters, and a tower falling down, killing all its inhabitants. People were born with disabilities and disease, and the Disciples just assumed that God was punishing them for their own sins, or even that of their parents. The answer Jesus gave His Disciples was almost a rebuke:

"It Rains on the Just and the Unjust." (Matthew 5:45)

Right now, California needs RAIN more than anything else. Whether one considers Hollywood "unjust" because of the content of their movies, their politics, or their greed and selfishness, remember that these are people who God created and loves.
