Pope Francis: May inmates on death row in the US be graced

Pope Francis asks for prayers for inmates awaiting execution on federal death row in the United States, appealing that their sentences be commuted.

Pope Francis on Sunday prayed that the sentences of inmates on death row in the United States be commuted or changed.

His prayer during the Angelus address comes as US President Joe Biden has the authority to commute the sentences of people on federal death row before he leaves office in January 2025.

“Today, I feel compelled to ask all of you to pray for the inmates on death row in the United States,” the Pope said, “Let us pray that their sentences may be commuted or changed. Let us think of these brothers and sisters of ours and ask the Lord for the grace to save them from death.”

“Let us pray that their sentences may be commuted or changed. Let us think of these brothers and sisters of ours and ask the Lord for the grace to save them from death.”

Anti-death penalty activists and associations have been imploring President Biden to use his clemency powers before he leaves office to spare the lives of about 40 federal death row inmates who are at peril of imminent execution when the next president takes office.

Why is the pope only concerned with death row inmates in the U.S.?

Why isn't he praying for a commutation of sentences for all the religious and political prisoners in his favorite country, Red China? Or Venezeuala or Cuba?

What about the J6 or all the imprisoned pro-lifers that his fellow "catholic", Joe Biden, has falsely imprisoned? Why does he only seek his "francis mercy" for guilty murderers but not the innocent pro-lifers both in the U.S and abroad?

Grace for the criminal is condemnation for his victims.

I wish someone would send Pope Francis a list of the people on death row and a summarization of what they did to get there. Of course I doubt if Francis would bother to read it.

1,026,700 innocent babies murdered vs. 24 murderers executed.

In 2023, 24 death row inmates were executed in the United States.

More than a million abortions were provided in the U.S. in 2023. That's a major finding from a report published Tuesday by the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports access to abortion.

To be precise, researchers estimate there were 1,026,700 abortions in 2023. "That's the highest number in over a decade, [and] the first time there have been over a million abortions provided in the U.S. formal health care system since 2012," explains Isaac Maddow-Zimet, a data scientist with Guttmacher.

There were 14% more abortions in the US in the first three months of 2024 than there were a year earlier, according to a new report. There were an average of 98,990 abortions each month in the first three months of 2024, according to the latest data from #WeCount, a research project from the Society of Family Planning.Aug 7, 2024

What about the souls of those condemned to death? Would it be proselytizing to minister to them?

You might counter with James 2:15,16
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.
If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

But the soul matters most.

I want the death penalty to end not because it is unjust or immoral in principle, only in practice. We are too fallible.

Why is the Pope concerned about their earthly lives? He could pray for their acceptance of Christ and salvation of their souls after just punishment. Then he could pretend to have a
shadow of concern for the murder victims and their families.

There are at least two sides of this. Yes Jesus would offer love to just about anyone you can imagine, including murderers.

However, this pos Pope is singling out the US and death row inmates, and Palestinians, because he’s a leftist ignoramus.

Undoubtedly whichever communists whisper in his ear went on about this recently.

Let me see this Pope pray for a conservative or J6 prisoner, then I’ll believe he just loves everyone.

He doesn’t.

“In 2023, 24 death row inmates were executed in the United States.”

And in 2023 we had 471 justifiable homicides by private citizens, more than the 303 killed by police. Since 2018, self defense killings have exceeded police killings.

The possibility of encountering an armed victim is a greater deterrent than the death penalty.

Death Row inmates have YEARS to repent and accept the LORD, unlike their victims. I pray they do so. But they are to be put to death for their crimes according to the law. Even Jesus, hanging on the cross, having been sentenced to death unjustly, between two thieves sentenced to death, did not condemn the death penalty. The Pope hasn’t a leg to stand on here.

“I want the death penalty to end not because it is unjust or immoral in principle, only in practice. We are too fallible.”

I could see restricting it to people with multiple violent felony convictions. Then, the probability of a completely innocent person being killed is insignificant. If someone with multiple robbery/assault/rape convictions is executed incorrectly, I won’t shed a tear.

Because the Pope is just as fake as “President” Biden.

The president has the Power to Pardon 24/7, 365. Why now Mr. Pointy Hat? Why now?
