I am working on a project for a friend that tells the story of Military Dogs. The words the friend wants me to set to music are about the Dogs that served in Vietnam. I have to adjust my musical style back to obtain the sound I want, ignoring all the changes that have taken place in my style in 56 years. It is a challenge to say the least.

In the lyrics, as the lonely soldier is thinking about home, he mentions the TV series "Star Trek". I felt an instant wave of nostalgia. I had been a big fan of the Original Series from 1966 to 1969, precisely the time frame when this song is taking place. For people my age, "Star Trek" was very much a part of our culture.

One of the most interesting plot devices in the Original Series was The Transporter. The Transporter got people from one place to another by turning Matter into Energy and then back into Matter again at a different location. This was not only a way to move the story along without having to use the Shuttle Craft all the time, but it also gave an opportunity to have hilarious mishaps when the Transporter "Malfunctioned" (MAD Magazine caught onto this right away).

Anyway, the mention of Star Trek in the song brought me back instantly to where I was Learning Guitar during that Era, and made it easier to work on the song. I only knew three chords at the time, used fingers instead of a pick, and hadn't mastered Rock and Roll. I loved the Beatles, but the songs had too many chords, so my dear friend Diana and I wrote a lot of Folk Songs together. We were also HUGE Star Trek fans, drew portraits of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, and wrote songs about Outer Space.

Diana and I are still Dear Friends, and the person who is writing about the Vietnam Service Dogs is her fiance'. Real Life is more Amazing than Sci-Fi could ever be!

What on Earth does any of this have to do with The Book of Acts? The Story of the Ethiopian Eunuch (I wish I knew his name, he deserves one), who sought the Lord and Found Him, has two moments in which the Holy Spirit motivates Philip from One Place to Another in Record Time. He goes from Samaria to Gaza, to Azotus instantly. The LORD puts Philip where and when he needs to be. We call this a "Divine Appointment". The Samaritans needed to hear the Word, and Philip was there. The Ethiopian Eunuch needed a Scripture interpreted, and Philip was there. The people in Azotus needed Philip, and so, he was there too.

"That's CRAZY!" You might say. But, since the God created Matter and Energy in the first place, I imagine "Transporting" it would be a simple...matter.
