Will the Jews keep the Torah and follow it in the Messianic era if Christians say the Law is dead?
Isa. 2:3
I do NOT think the Law is dead. Jesus didn’t think so.
It’s not dead. Some of it was overturned (dietary laws)
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them.
~~~~ Matthew 5:17
You have to distinguish between the Law of God and the Law of Moses. The Law of God is love and it will never pass away. The Law of Moses was given to Israel for reproof and correction. It has been fulfilled. Deuteronomy means “second law.”
Matthew 5:17
“Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them.
Matthew 5:18
For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.
Per Messianic Jew Michael Brown, Tovia Singer is intellectually dishonest and as slippery as a snake.
Romans 7:6
“But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”
Exactly. Christians who believe otherwise have not read the Bible, at least not the Gospels.
What Christian says the Law is dead? Jesus said, “I have not come to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it”. And, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” This is what Christians believe.
Yes. Evidenced by the soon-coming rebuilding of the temple and the animal sacrifices.
in the Messianic era
The "Messianic Era" is ever since Christ died and rose again. However for the nation of Israel, the "Messianic Era" will come shortly after the church is taken up to heaven, Daniel's 70th week launches, God turns back the world attack on Israel, and Israel recognizes and accepts Jesus and their Messiah (Rev. Chapter 7; Rom. 11:26).
if Christians say the Law is dead
The Bible says the Old Covenant Law has decayed and vanished away (Heb. 8:13), changed into the New Covenant of Grace (Heb 7:12, Rom. 6:14).
The Law isn’t dead.
Christian’s are dead to the Law.
“For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God.”
Galatians 2:19 is the key to understanding the Law.
“For through the Law I died to the Law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with the Messiah.”
When we die to self we die to the Law that condemns us and we are resurrected with Christ to live eternally with Him. Jesus is the model for salvation.
“You have to distinguish between the Law of God and the Law of Moses.”
Key point. Otherwise people can speak past each other. No stoning or animal sacrifices happening around here and I can enjoy some ham. :-)
Exactly. Paul’s Letter to the Romans makes no sense otherwise. The eternal law as expressed in the Ten Commandments and summarized in the two great commandments endures. The Mosaic Law, however, is no longer operative. There is now only one covenant and one sacrifice in Jesus Christ.
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law until all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matt 5:17-19
Jesus says He didn’t come to destroy the law. But He did come to set us free from the law. It actually confirms our freedom from the law. Jesus gave this teaching before his crucifixion. He gave this teaching before setting us free from the law.
Jesus said the law wouldn’t pass away until all of it was fulfilled. The context is about the law. Consider the following questions:
1. What did Jesus come to do?
- Answer: Jesus said He came to fulfill the law. vs 17
2. Will any part of the law fall away by itself?
- Answer: Jesus said NO part of the law would fall away until ALL of the law is fulfilled. vs 18
3. When will the law as a whole pass away?
- Answer: When it is fulfilled. vs 18
4. What did Jesus come to do?
- Answer: Jesus said He came to fulfill the law. vs 17.
5. Did Jesus fail in what He came to do?
- Answer: No. He fulfilled the entire law. Jesus is not coming again to fulfill the law.
6. What did Jesus say would happen when the law was fulfilled?
Answer: It will pass away.
7. What happened when Jesus fulfilled the law.
- Answer: The law passed away. This is established in many New Testament passages.
Jesus didn’t come to destroy the law, but He did come to set us free from the law; both from its penalties and its burdens.
In Acts 15, the Apostles wrote to the Gentiles that they were not under the law. Were the apostles wrong? No. They said what they wrote "seemed good to the Holy Spirit."
In the book of Romans, we read the following:
“Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.” Rom 7:4
We are now under New Testament commandments. 1 John 3:23, John 13:34, etc
Jesus Said;
‘I have Not come to abolish the LAW
But to Fulfill It’
.
Seems the King of the Universe
Endorses the Law.
.
Thank you Jesus!
