Pastor Chuck Swindoll has announced that he’s retiring as pastor from the 3700-member Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, at the age of 90.
Swindoll is best known for his radio program Insights for Living, which plays on over 2000 stations, and for writing over 70 books. He previously announced in April 2024 that he was quitting the senior pastor but would still be preaching from the pulpit, but now he’s also retiring from that as well.
An announcement posted to the church website reads:
As I stand before you today, I find myself filled with a profound sense of gratitude and bittersweet reflection. After 26 incredible years as your senior pastor at Stonebriar Community Church, the time has come for me to retire from Stonebriar—and embrace a new chapter in my life.
While Swindoll will be stepping away from the pulpit and preach his last sermon in October, he plans on staying active for the kingdom, shifting his “singular focus to Insight for Living,” where he’ll be “diving into weekly meetings, encouraging passionate young pastors, recording podcasts, and even writing a few books.” He writes:
I want to embrace every day, every challenge, and every opportunity to impact lives, because one never retires from the work of God’s kingdom.
This decision was not made lightly. Each moment spent with you has shaped me, taught me, and filled my heart with joy. Together, we have built a vibrant community grounded in faith, hope, and love. We have shared countless memories, celebrated milestones, and faced challenges hand in hand.
Always like him. Godspeed!
He wrote a great biography of Saul of Tarsus (Paul the apostle).
I did as well, that is, until he started preaching from bible versions that were not accurate. When he started using “The Message” I finally had to turn him off, but before that I listened and learned a lot from his ministry.
I hope he’s a true Christian believer and not a false teacher.
Spent many many hours following his radio broadcasts with his companion Bible study guides in hand. I’m guessing I have over 50 guides in the book case and he taught me so much.
By far, I believe his best book is “THE GRACE AWAKENING”. It changed by life away from legalistic burdens put upon my by previously wrong teaching and the manipulative schemes of others. For anyone living the life of “I’ve got to DO something” to please God, or others, I strongly recommend this good book to free you into his love and grace. The unmerited favor of God is beaitiful to embrace and peace to our souls.
Thank you Chuck for the years of blessings and for teaching God’s Word. Rest well in these years, with the comfort you gave to others, like slow-to-learn...me.

If you’re bound by the rules you feel you have to live under in order to feel loved and accepted by God, then the book suggested is a must read and will probably be life changing.

Yes. God bless him.
That is a man of God of whom I have NEVER heard anything bad.
Solid theologically and no moral failings that I have ever heard of.
I can’t stand The Message.
And sadly, it seems that a lot of pastors are using that for Scripture references in sermons. UGH!
I’m not stupid and don’t need someone to define big words for me while they are going through reading the verse out loud.
I love to listen to him.
One of the good ones!
To those who dislike the message Bible, which version do you read daily?
I listen to his daily podcast
I even remember early versions of the NKJV having the 666 emblem in the front cover, you know, that circular thingy that always looked kinda weird. Doesn't get any more satanic than that.
I have a 1599 Geneva Bible as well as my trusty, 40 year old, King James Bible, the one with all the pages falling out from use!
not bound by that but rather under the impression that actions have consequences, and even though God still, by grace, loves us, we still have to face the consequences of our actions- some consequences are quite severe and unrelenting- Moses had to suffer the consequences of smashing the rock to get water out- and it was a severe consequence- imagine how much more severe our consequences for our more egregious actions are compared to what he did?
God used Chuck’s radio ministry as one of many inputs to disciple me as a young Christian.
His broadcast used to coincide with my 40-minute drive to work. I listened every morning. Sometimes he was a teacher - other times a preacher. Always, though, it was a great way to start my day.
I love his broadcasts on Christian radio. He has such an upbeat and youthful voice. God bless his retirement.
