In a previous Thread, I described "Gear Acquisition Syndrome (G.A.S.)", an affliction that seems to target Rock Guitar Players the most (Although Drummers and Keyboard Players also get it!). This doesn't seem to afflict Classical Musicians as much, mainly because their instruments are so expensive to begin with, and are usually played without augmentation or amplification. I do however, have a dear friend who is a cellist, and has performed in Rock Bands, adding a unique element to the music. The first signs of G.A.S appeared when she purchased a small effects pedal for her cello. This developed into a full-blown rack of effects pedals the size of a small suitcase, which sits in front of her as she plays her beautiful, classical , 18th Century Instrument. The sounds she gets from that gear is amazing.

A running joke about G.A.S. is this:

Q. "What did you pay for that new Les Paul Guitar?"

A. "Oh, about twice as much as I told my wife I paid for it!"



I am a G.A.S. Sufferer in Recovery, so I know what it's all about.

As in every other Name we have explored in Scripture, Today's Name is best understood in context, and Today's is no different. The Story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira is perhaps one of the most misunderstood story in the New Testament. Here is the gist of it: A lot of people were selling property and donating the proceeds to the early church, as the congregation was running into great expense helping the poor and feeding widows. This was done on a totally voluntary basis, quietly, with no fanfare. Those who gave were not announcing their donations, they were just getting things done. A married couple, Ananias and Sapphira sold some land, conspired together to LIE about the amount they received, keep some of the money for themselves, and make a big show of their donation, as if it were the full amount of the sale.

They were not obligated to sell the property in the first place, nor were they required to donate any of it. Their sin was what we now call "Virtue Signaling", which is lying to make everybody think you're something you are not. Virtue Signaling takes many forms, from a Lawn Sign declaring how "Tolerant" one is on a Million-Dollar Home in the Hamptons, to a Bronze Plaque with a donor's name on it on a Private, Exclusive Pew in a church. Peter sees right through the lie, and calls them on it. He calls it "Lying to the Holy Ghost" and then, in the same breath, "Lying to God".

In this little phrase in a sentence in a chapter in a Book, in the Bible, is the Declaration:

"The Holy Ghost IS God".

Tomorrow we will see how the Old Testament makes this same assertion.
