When a true believer goes to church on Sunday morning, they expect the Scriptures to be opened, read, and taught. They expect God to be honored and worshiped in spirit and in truth. They expect the Word of God to convict us of our sin and encourage us in our walk, pointing us to the cross and drawing us near to Him.
Yet, for the vast majority of so-called churches, that is a fantasy.
Charles Spurgeon once predicted that “A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats!” Well, that time is not just here, it’s already a tired, tragic joke. We’ve moved beyond mere entertainment to outright defilement of the pulpit.
It’s not just clowns entertaining goats anymore—it’s these self-proclaimed ‘churches’ shamelessly attributing their irreverent circus acts to God as if He’s some sort of celestial ringmaster behind their circus acts.
In our latest example, LCBS Church, a multi-campus megachurch with over 20 locations throughout Pennsylvania, transformed one of its campuses into a fully functional Willy Wonka themed movie set. I mean, you won’t believe the astronomical amount of time, money, and effort that went into this. And the past, at the ends, finishes with “maybe they’ll be introduced to Jesus.”
What a joke.

Lancaster County Bible Church?
Although in Pennsylvania, almost certainly not a Spirit-filled Philadelphia Church.
Another Laodicean Church gone off the rails.
Heretics, that’s what these people are.
Have to add that I’ve met and interacted with this pastor.
There’s a lot that makes me uncomfortable, but I’ve heard them preach the gospel.
I’ve seen people saved and lives transformed.
Mixed feelings.
Dallas Baptist church had a singing Christmas tree event every year.
Wasn’t comfortable with that either.
In the future look for churches like this, and the one with Andy Stanley, to start preaching from a newly written world approved bible. They already have their theology. All they need now is a guidebook written out that fits what they preach. Like one that has Jesus promoting women preachers, and one where Jesus praises the holy gays and lesbians. Crowds of folks like this stuff, so it pays good money.
This is wonderful. Makes the larger church family more accessible to a younger audience. Whether they keep them, depends on how kind and good the original church family is to make the newcomers feel at home. Great idea!
Sadly the Church is becoming what John Chrysostom warned them about.
Theater going had encouraged congregations to regard preaching as a kind of entertainment rather than instruction.
