Are sins transferred to Heaven by the blood of Christ? {Yes, according to Seventh day Adventism, Investigative Judgement doctrine}

Adventist Teaching: Yes

Biblical Teaching: No

In Seventh-Day Adventist theology, the sins of believers are transferred to a sanctuary building in Heaven where Jesus is doing a work of investigative judgement to see who is and isn’t worthy of the atoning benefits of His sacrifice. He is “cleansing the sanctuary” of sin in this process because this sanctuary became defiled by our sins. It is the blood of Christ in this work that transfers the sins there and His blood will also be what transfers them to Satan (though, they will say symbolically). They claim this is modeled after the Old Testament sanctuary service.

The Bible nowhere teaches this. The blood of Christ is never spoken of as defiling anything (Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 1:7; Colossians 1:20; Acts 20:28; Hebrews 9:14). Scripture nowhere states or alludes to Jesus’s blood, whether literally or symbolically, being a vehicle for transferring sin around. This is heresy.

Furthermore, Jesus is not dealing with sin anymore like the Levitical priest’s constantly were. He put sin away by the single sacrifice of Himself on the cross (Hebrews 9:26). He is seated in Heaven, something the Levitical priests never did because the work of dealing with sin was never finished (Hebrews 10:11-14). He is ruling and reigning as a Priest King while all of His enemies are made His footstool (Hebrews 10:12-13). The work of dealing with sin is over.

The Bible is also clear that one of the things that makes the new covenant better is that God remembers the sins of the people in the covenant no more (Jeremiah 31:34, Hebrews 8:12). They are not being stored in Heaven to be investigated.

The Great Disappointment of October 22, 1844 had left Millerite Adventists devastated. The following day, Hiram Edson claimed that as he and two others were walking through a cornfield he was enrapt in a vision in which he saw Jesus moving from the Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary into the Most Holy Place to begin a work of “investigative judgement” to cleanse the heavenly sanctuary of sins. Adventists have yet to explain how this heavenly sanctuary was defiled with sin to begin with, nevertheless this view would provide immediate comfort and renewed, fanatical zeal to the specific group of Millerite Adventists who later formed the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The Investigative Judgement, or the Sanctuary doctrine, is Fundamental Belief #24 in the official beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Dr Desmond Ford an ex Adventist has done extensive research and written at length about this

Without looking up verses, I will go back to old Hymns/songs/Sunday School lessons.

Washed in the Blood

My sins are covered in Jesus’ blood, God cannot ‘see’ them.

Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

These are DUMB discussions. NO ONE knows what the truth is, or can possible know. And people who waste time arguing and actually fighting over how correct THEIR interpretation of god’s will is correct are not doing the world any favors.

In any religion.

It’s not clear to me how this is any different than the “Grace through substitutionary atonement” of we Christians.

I didn’t know how or what to pray for.

My husband use to say, “He knows what you want
and He knows what you need.

They take their understanding from the sacrifice and scape goat ceremony. The scapegoat is Satan and all punishment that would have been given to mankind is given to Satan

He may know what you want and need, but you still must ask.

The Seventh-day Adventist church believes that the investigative judgement began in 1844.

that in 1844 “the sanctuary shall be cleansed.”

Rather than returning to earth in 1844, Jesus entered the Heavenly Sanctuary to judge the believers on earth and determine whether they are truly worthy of salvation. This explanation ultimately allowed the early Adventists to simultaneously recognize the flaw of Millerism and allow them to have been correct about 1844 at the same time. Adventism’s prophetess, Ellen G. White, also confirmed this view in her writings.

Christ paid the penalty for mankind. But the penalty for each saved person is transferred to Satan.

Where do people come up with this stuff?

NO ONE knows what the truth is, or can possible know.
= = =

Jesus says, “I AM The Way, The Truth, and The Life...”

And Jesus is The Word, The Bible, The Truth of God.

So if one reads the Bible, he is exposing himself to truth, The Truth, and can absorb it or not.

As I said, that comes from the Scapegoat ceremony. The Lamb pays for the sins, then the sins are transferred from the lamb to the goat.

Evangelical Christianity tends to either ignore the goat entirely or they say that it’s also the Christ. The problem I have with the goat being the Christ is that the goat is banished permanently.
