High School Student Denied Diploma for Praising Jesus ‘Off-Script’
Chrisma News ^ | May 30, 2024 | James Lasher

Posted on 05/30/2024 3:35:49 PM PDT by Morgana

There have been some sketchy high school graduation speeches in the past, and many did not have their diplomas held back due to the nature of the student’s speech.

But throw an off-script praise of Jesus Christ into today’s society and you are sure to ruffle some feathers.

This very thing happened to recent graduate Micah Price of Campbell County High School in Alexandria, Kentucky.

Price didn’t call for revolutions, he did not promote violence or anything of the sort, instead he followed his faith in a message of support and love.

“Class, before another word leaves my mouth, I must give the honor, the praise and the glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Price said at the graduation ceremony held in Truist Arena at Northern Kentucky University.

Had this been said at a high school in the Seattle, Washington, area, protesters may have stormed the stage at the very mention of Jesus, but it wasn’t. This was in Kentucky, and Price’s words were met with resounding applause.

“Who in His very words tells us He is the light, He is the way, the truth and life. Class, anyone in the audience today, I’m here to tell you that if you don’t have any of those things in your life and can’t seem to find the answer, then my Lord and Savior is your answer.”

How dare he.

In true modern-day academia fashion, the school’s administration was none to happy with his non-approved message, although his thanking and praising of Jesus was in the approved version of his speech.

Price was confronted by a school official, and posted a video on TikTok sharing about the encounter.

“After the speech was over, one of the principals came in, tapped me on the shoulder, very politely and professionally told me that I was going to have to go in front of the board and explain what I did because I went off script,” Price recalled.

The administration addressed that it was Price’s deviation from his pre-approved speech, which was the encouragement to others to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, that resulted in the initial denial of his diploma.

“All speakers were told that going off their submitted speech, or any unplanned choices at graduation, may have repercussions as they would at any school function,” Superintendent Shelli Wilson told WKRC.

“Off-program choices such as speech, signs and caps in support of any cause or religion, injecting inappropriate language, or political election statements could lead to something other than this outpouring of Christian faith.”

Price revealed that his entire off-script portion of the speech was in his original writings, but that school officials wanted it removed.

“They said that it was a public institution; and they didn’t want to divide their audience or my audience because I was speaking,” Price shared.

Thankfully, after the Memorial Day weekend of remembrance, Price did receive his diploma while thanking the Lord for answered prayers.

“Holding it is just an answered prayer, that’s all it is, just an answered prayer,” says Price.

Not mentioning any dependence upon, and or gratitude, to any deity is effectively sanctioning atheism, which itself is a position of faith.

Which none of the Founders expressed.

Watch out for this lad; he’s a real hardened criminal.

WTG, Micah Price.

Going “off script” *is* the way, the truth, and the life.

Strict adherence to talking points memos and boilerplate templates is the way to the grave — everybody marching in lockstep to their favorite Establishment piper.

I posted this on another thread about this same issue:

Superintendent Shelli Wilson is the most responsible person here.

Shelli.Wilson@campbell.kyschools.us

Background on her:

https://www.kentuckyteacher.org/features/2022/10/campbell-county-superintendent-shelli-wilson-all-challenges-are-opportunities/

“On July 1, (2022) following 20 years of service to the district, Shelli Wilson began her role as superintendent of Campbell County Schools. She replaced former Superintendent Danny Rust, who announced he would not renew his contract at the end of June. Rust had served as superintendent since 2016.

Wilson first decided to go into education due to the impact public education had on her life.

“I have always known that education empowers and is the avenue for change in our world,” she said.

Wilson is no stranger to the district and said the district is focused on a vision which, “values and respects students and staff, focuses on early learning initiatives, provides world-class and individualized pathways for students and focuses on preparation for all students so that they graduate possessing and excelling with all the attributes of the Profile of a Graduate.”

As districts face continued challenges, Wilson said all challenges are opportunities.

“The increased responsibilities and expectations placed on education are both a challenge and an opportunity,” she said.

She is most looking forward to supporting the district’s vision and partnering with the community so that the schools continue to be recognized as leaders in educational excellence.

Wilson attended the University of Kentucky (UK) and moved to northern Kentucky after graduation. She began her career in 1993 in Fayette County as a 4th and 5th grade teacher, before becoming a special education teacher in Bracken County from 1994 to 2001. She later served as an assistant principal at Bellevue Middle and High School (Bellevue Independent) from 2001 to 2002 and assistant principal at Campbell County High School in 2002.

She became principal of Donald E. Cline Elementary (Campbell County) in 2003 and has served as associate superintendent since 2006. She also worked as an adjunct professor at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) from 2010 to 2021.

Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UK, as well as a master’s degree in elementary education, Rank I in instructional leadership, special education certification and supervisor of instruction K-12 from NKU. She also received her director of special education certification from Xavier University, and her superintendent certification and doctorate in educational leadership from UK.

Wilson has been married to her husband Robert for 26 years. They share two sons who are both graduates of Campbell County High School. The couple’s oldest son is also a graduate of the United States Military Academy and is serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Anchorage, Ala., and their youngest son is a senior at Centre College.

Wilson said her kids are her world and when she can’t spend time with them, she enjoys running, gardening and being outdoors.”

Shelli L. Wilson is her full name per:

resulted in the initial denial of his diploma.

Who cares, it's just a piece of paper they give to the kids who march across the stage that paid x amount of dollars just to rent that stupid hat and gown..

I got one but it probably ended up in the garbage shortly afterwards.....

High school records show he graduated, so that's all that matters.......

I’m tired of hearing crap like this and can’t see how the school can even think of holding a diploma. If I were the student, in my old age now, I’d say FAFO and then occasionally do something rotten. I just don’t care anymore.

Sodom and Gomorrah redux...

Keep in mind, the atheist anti Christian faction that hates Christians will bend over backwards to show love, praise and affection towards Islamist’s.

Be ready for Revelations, it’s coming quickly.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
