The Vatican’s doctrine office will publish a new document next week on discerning Marian apparitions and other supernatural events.
The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), will unveil new norms for discernment regarding “apparitions and other supernatural phenomena” on Friday, May 17.
In an interview with the National Catholic Register, CNA’s sister news partner, last month, Fernandez said that the document will provide “clear guidelines and norms” for discernment.
The new norms will be the first time that the Vatican’s doctrinal office has issued a general document on apparitions in four decades. Pope Paul VI approved norms on “the discernment of presumed apparitions or revelations” in 1978.

Alexander Hilsop and Jack Chick live on. A Sunday would not be complete around here without a good old-fashioned anti-Catholic thread to close it out. It's not enough that they incessantly post their juvenile and unscriptural Rapture threads; they have to ignorantly attack other Christians that they hate.
“I don’t know why people post Catholic pieces on this anticatholic site.”
FreeRepublic is NOT an anti Catholic website.
Let’s drop the religious wars here.
I’m not Catholic but support my Catholic brothers and sisters even though I don’t agree with some things they believe .
We have a lot in common and need to stop the foolish sniping .
The projection coming from RC’s is like a democratic convention screaming about “White Rage” and “Lynchings”.
As a former RC (yes proudly former), I can say the unscriptural nonsense spewing from a “Perpetual Virgin Mary” to “Purgatory” are just two teeny examples of what happens when you mix sorcery, paganism, and theology together.
The Rapture, is Scriptural by the way:
John 14:3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
1 Thessalonians 4:17
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Show me in Scripture where Mary ascends to “heaven” before death.
Show me in Scripture where Purgatory is declared by The Lord.
Crickets....I hear them.
Trent made St. Paul anathema and Pius IX finished off Jesus, so after them it makes you wonder why anything Francis does would raise an eyebrow.
Some of the most awesome Evangelicals I’ve ever met - with a fire for The Lord are former RC’s.
My prayer is always for those who start to see through the insanity coming down the pipe, that they will eventually wise up - and be Saved.
1 Timothy 2:3-6
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
Then you’re not paying attention
1 Timothy 2:3-6
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
“…with a fire for The Lord are former RC’s”
Be careful about flattering people as you point out. There is no former catholic. Everyone baptized Catholic who received the sacraments will be judged Catholic. No amount of ridicule will change that for them. No matter how big the anticatholic crowd
What you hear is my tagline.
Show me in Scripture where Purgatory is declared by The Lord.
Show me in Scripture where it says that everything a Christian needs to believe is found in Scripture. Surely such a foundational doctrine would be explicitly found there. Don't bother with 2 Timothy 3:16 because it only says that Scripture is "useful" or "profitable," not sufficient.
I'll wait right here for that Scripture text.
I didn’t know Jesus spoke English
I didn’t ask to be baptized Catholic. My mother made that decision. A devout Catholic all she ever told me about God was, “God will punish you for that” And “You’re going to hell for that.”
How could a seven-year-old who heard that several times a day every day love or even believe in God?
It’s not who they think it is.
Mary was a Sinner, just like the rest of us. Jesus didn’t hold her higher than anyone else.
How could a seven-year-old who heard that several times a day every day love or even believe in God?
I'm sorry you raised that way, but that does not reflect the entirety of Catholic teaching--not by a long shot. Now that you are not 7 years old anymore, maybe you should take a look at what the Church really teaches:
While I personally think many are imaginary, There’s no real denying that our Creator can send apparitions if he wishes
Face the mirror when you pray that prayer.
I just returned from pilgrimage to Lourdes. You have no idea what you are missing. Open your heart and watch for the miracles. I pray you gain eyes to see and ears to hear. 🙏
Poppa Pope,Marian Worship and the Magic Cookie Are the Kickers on this Cath Cauc Website. Those three are the tipping point for an out of Christian belief.
No scripture to Back it up.
Sola Scriptura is my go to belief
Holy Relics are Just Hideous.
