I am hoping to do 3 a day to finish posting this 8-part series

I do not doubt that prophecy and premonitions can be true, but I am highly skeptical of taking the Bible or Nostradamus or Tarot reading or Spiritualist mediums as predictive in a useful way. Even worse — to me at least — is when prophecy is claimed as a basis to believe. After all, to be practical about it, why not delay belief until the prophecy comes true?
I wouldn’t touch Nostradamus, tarot cards or mediums, but that’s just me.
God has a very specific reason for prophecy - though, admittedly, it’s hard to set exact dates on such (so we try not to do that).
One thing: The prophecies are meant to display the reality of God (verses to follow) - some people will be dead and their eternal fate already decided by waiting to believe.
God bless.
Isaiah 46:9-13
New King James Version
9 Remember the former things of old,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things that are not yet done,
Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
And I will do all My pleasure,’
11 Calling a bird of prey from the East,
The man who executes My counsel, from a far country.
Indeed I have spoken it;
I will also bring it to pass.
I have purposed it;
I will also do it.
12 “Listen to Me, you stubborn-hearted,
Who are far from righteousness:
13 I bring My righteousness near, it shall not be far off;
My Salvation shall not linger.
And I will place Salvation in Zion,
For Israel My glory.

There are far better and more compelling reasons to believe in God and in Jesus Christ than the obscurities of supposed prophecies. Indeed, prophecies facilitated by psychoactive substances were a stock in trade for oracles and priests in the ancient world — and was promoted as a reason to believe in one or another of their pagan gods. I am hard put to think of most claims of prophecy for our future as usually little more than a shabby trick meant to con the gullible.
Well, to each his own, I suppose.
I certainly wouldn’t be able to convince everyone.
That being said, it appears that most in government, in America and around the world don’t take it too seriously either.
Thanks for bumping the thread, though.
[to believe in God and in Jesus Christ than the obscurities of supposed prophecies.]
Oops, a secondary point but perhaps the most important one of all: There were MANY PROPHECIES FORETELLING the coming of the Messiah - which we Christians know as Jesus Christ.
Old Johnny boy ain’t the one I go to for Bibilical exegesis
Oh. Okay.
A couple reasons.
One is that it shows that you believe what God is telling you in Scripture by believing it before you see the fulfillment.
I'm sure there were people in Jesus' day who believed He was coming before He showed up on the scene. By believing the prophecy ahead of time, it enables you to recognize when it is fulfilled.
The other things is, some prophecy has already been fulfilled. Israel becoming a nation in 1948 and Jerusalem coming under Israeli control in 1967 are just two examples.
Jesus’ first coming was prophesied as well.
Are you going to dismiss that, too?
in a nutshell, actually, um,, yeah.
Sure seeming like it.
Unfortunately. I really hate to think it.
The prophecy of the coming of Jesus is thin gruel when compared to the truth of his life, teachings, passion, death, and resurrection.
“Is America in Decline?”
OF COURSE IT IS, STUPID!
DECLINE? Its already OVER!
They asked it rhetorically and tried to answer why to some part of it.
I think a lot of Americans know things are going terribly wrong.
THEN, there’s those who STILL support JoeObama Biden.....
for a fun read, look up America’s pluto return.
