Nice graphics at the link. The sphincter of Oddi is no longer a part of my gut. A significant quantity of bilirubin "sludge" was released when the surgeon remove the sphincter and placed a stent to keep the duct open. I'm hoping that relieved the back pressure on my biliary "tree" and will end the bilirubin hitting my blood stream. I never got jaundice, but it did bring on significant itching of lower legs, shoulders and belly over the liver.
