A former Mormon has lifted the lid on the church's bizarre 'baptisms for the dead' - revealing the temple sent her to a cemetery to take pictures of gravestones as a kid and then forced her to participate in a ceremony for the deceased.
Alyssa Grenfell, 31, who now works as an assistant principle in Austin, Texas, was raised in a 'devout Mormon family' in Utah, but decided to leave the 'controlling religion' in 2017.
She has since dedicated her life to helping others 'navigate their own way out of the LDS church' - releasing her own 'guide' called How to Leave the Mormon Church, while also becoming a viral social media star for sharing her experiences online.
Most recently, Alyssa spoke out about a 'creepy' process that saw the group baptize people who have passed away - even if they weren't members of the religion before their death.
In a video shared to her YouTube channel last week, where she has more than 85,000 subscribers, Alyssa announced: 'The Mormon church is baptizing your dead relatives.'
She explained that members of the religion believe that 'everyone must be baptized by the proper Mormon authority' to move on to 'Spirit Paradise' when they pass away.
'Essentially, when someone passes away, if they haven't had the chance to receive a Mormon baptism, they're not saved,' she said.
'So Mormons take the names of those who have not been baptized and take them to the LDS temple.
'They also believe that it's up to the person to accept or reject the baptism on the other side.

God gave all his living children FREE WILL. Our choice. Our consequences.
A lot of you anti-Mormons have no idea what you’re talking about. You hear lies and misleading propaganda, much like this article, all the time. And you hear it from rabid Mormon haters.
This i like a liberal dimocrat telling people about Republican views and policies, and you take it as fact.
Mormons are in fact Christians and read the Bible and teach the Bible and pray to Jesus Christ and God the Father. And anyone who says different is a damn liar.
If you really, want to know about Mormonism why not have a conversation with those two young men or women the next time they knock on your door or ask a friend you trust who is a Mormon or ask one of the many Mormons on FR. And don’t argue, simply ask questions to clarify what you’ve heard.
Classic case of pulling a scripture out of context, and building a doctrine around it.
1 Cor. 15:29 (written 30+ years after Christ’s resurrection) is in the middle of Paul defense of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, using the hypothetical view of if Christ is not risen, then converts of his that had died since, were followers in vain. Therefore, anyone being baptized into Christ, has been “baptized for the dead” Christ and his dead followers, and not for the living Christ (and those asleep in Christ).
Smith was not a martyr, he was a false prophet.
Its the dunking “torture” and being forced into a wet t-shirt contest that is abusive.
The things really have very little to do with anything. There are some other issues said to be related to some Mormons that causes me some issues.
The rest of her commentary is just her really just her personal uneasiness.
Its all fine by me, its not like people playing make believe retroactively cancels your baptism.
We don’t look at things like that as shutting down operations. We simply encourage family. If you ever hear the phrase, “Families are forever” you know it’s a Mormon saying it.
Families are YUGELY encouraged in the church and larger than average families come with the territory. However some Mormon marriages do not have big families. Not a big deal.
Do you believe in eternal progression? Can you become "a god" of your own world someday?
Brigham Young said there were as many "gods" as there are grains of sand upon the seashore. Do you believe that?
That's not a Christian belief; it's quasi-polytheistic. Isaiah 43 through 45 are perfectly clear that there is only one God.
pray to Jesus Christ and God the Father
"Mormons pray—a lot, actually. They pray to God, not Jesus Christ, but in the name of Jesus Christ." -- link to "ldsblogs.com"
I'm seeing a lot of LDS sources, like this one, which reject the idea of praying to Jesus. Are they also "damn liars"?
Oh, and Christians don't believe that "God" and "Jesus Christ" are two distinct beings, but two divine persons of one divine being. What do you say?
Just re-read my post to you. I really stroked out there.
Maybe its time for ice cream and a nap before I poop myself.
This is the main reason that they’re a great resource for family genealogy as they’re back tracking and researching your family to baptize.
Not going to argue with you. You can believe what you want and I will not think badly of you unlike your thoughts of Mormons. You don’t understand the Mormon religion and other Christian religions and that is shown by some of your statements.
Mormons are good, conservative Americans and Christians, with the exception of Romney, Dingy Harry, Jeff Flake, and a a few other Mormon politicians.
Again, you know a lot about Mormons from anti Mormons and you’re not asking or listening with an open mind. You want to argue and that’s not conducive to learning.
Ask a friend who is Mormon about everything you just said.
Whats with the multiple Mormon articles ???
It’s a useless, meaningless ceremony.
Mormonism is not related to Christianity..
Joey Smith hated Christianity...
The Methodists kicked him out because of his pagan behavior and beliefs...
For instance in Mormonism their Jesus and Lucifer are brothers and sons of their Mormon god.....
They believe that one of their Mormon gods came down from their Mormon afterlife and had sex with their Mormon Mary to produce their Mormon Jesus who started out as a mortal man and became a god due to being a good man...
The LORD Jesus Christ of Christianity was the Word of God and started out in Heaven with God ...
Well, since you put it so convincingly.....
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing so nicely dont they ...
One of their Mormon songs they sing in their religious ceremonies in their worship of Joey Smith starts off
Hail to the man who talked to Jehovah
but they dont have any songs about worshipping the LORD Jesus Christ..
They do sing Holy Holy Holy but the change the last line of the verse...
They dont sing God in Three Persons Blessed Trinity
Why do those kids do ‘baptisms for the dead ???
Whats it suppose to accomplish ???
Nan, wow, it’s almost like youre Mormon. Uncanny.
I’m struggling to figure out why I should care about this
Technically, LDS is not Trinitarian so not considered a Christian Church.
Somehow you have more rules to qualify as a Christian? Guess what, someone somewhere has even more rules that disqualify you as a Christian.
Anyone who believes Jesus Christ and believes that Jesus is the redeemer is a Christian.
I could never figure out why Mormons are willing to spend so much money on collecting, storing and distributing all the genealogy data they do. Come to find out, that’s the reason. They believe a descendant of someone who has dies “lost” can be baptized “by proxy” for their ancestor. But this can’t be done if you don’t know who your ancestors were.
They’re literally recruiting the dead. Which sounds like a demoncrat party campaign slogan.
