Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 26
26 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” So Paul motioned with his hand and began his defense: 2 “King Agrippa, I consider myself fortunate to stand before you today as I make my defense against all the accusations of the Jews, 3 and especially so because you are well acquainted with all the Jewish customs and controversies. Therefore, I beg you to listen to me patiently.
4 “The Jewish people all know the way I have lived ever since I was a child, from the beginning of my life in my own country, and also in Jerusalem. 5 They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee. 6 And now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our ancestors that I am on trial today. 7 This is the promise our twelve tribes are hoping to see fulfilled as they earnestly serve God day and night. King Agrippa, it is because of this hope that these Jews are accusing me. 8 Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?
9 “I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord’s people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. 11 Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities.
12 “On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. 13 About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic,[a] ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
15 “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’
“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. 16 ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
19 “So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. 20 First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. 21 That is why some Jews seized me in the temple courts and tried to kill me. 22 But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— 23 that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.”
24 At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.”
25 “I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and reasonable. 26 The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.”
28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?”
29 Paul replied, “Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.”
30 The king rose, and with him the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them. 31 After they left the room, they began saying to one another, “This man is not doing anything that deserves death or imprisonment.”
32 Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Heavenly Father,
How Precious,
How Wonderful,
How Lovely To Be in Your Presence!
Your Name is So Hallowed,
So Holy and Pure,
and Your Lovingkindness is From Everlasting to Everlasting!
Why Do You Love Us So,
When We Persist in Turning Away From You?
Your Love is Unsearchable,
Your Mercy Unexplainable,
Your Peace Passes Understanding!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

My Sister called last night inquiring after my health. Both of us wondered what this affliction could have been, because she has just emerged from two weeks of hell as well. I suggested that it might be RSV.
When she asked what the RSV was, I quipped that it was a "not-so-great translation, of the Bible that is used in Liberal Churches."
She got the joke right away, as we once worked together in a Bible store forty years ago.
So whether it was RSV, Covid, the Flu, or just a NASTY cold, we are both on the mend, Thank God.
It is interesting to look at the above Family Tree. From the lineage of King Agrippa (bottom left) we can see how the "Herod family" weaves in and out of the Gospels and the Book of Acts, and how they were considered kings of the Jewish People for several generations. They were not "Jewish" by ethnicity, and were not devout practitioners of the Jewish Religion, but they certainly knew the language and tenets of the faith. My (NIV) Study Bible has a note that the Herods were of the Sadducee Party, which meant that they did not believe in The Resurrection.
It is to these people that Paul makes his final defense before hitting the sea for Rome.
But look...he starts out with a very conciliatory speech to Agrippa, complimenting him upon his knowledge of Jewish customs and belief. He becomes Agrippa's coreligionist and confidant as he acknowledges Agrippa's belief in the Scriptures. Now, remember when Paul was on Mars Hill in Athens? He spoke to the Stoic and Epicurean Philosophers in the same respectful, conciliatory way. He even quoted some of their poets, affirming that, deep down inside, the Greeks had a longing to worship the "Unknown" One True God.
When Paul presented his case to the practical, legal-minded Romans, he prefaced his testimony differently again, appealing to his rights as a Roman Citizen, and not getting into the "poetic" stuff at all.
But, in all three venues, Paul follows up his custom-made introductions with the one thing that does NOT change: His Testimony. Paul's "Damascus Experience" was so pivotal that it crowns every speech, no matter the audience. Agrippa's reaction is interesting. He is "Almost Persuaded". Paul's motive was not to get acquitted at all...it was to touch Agrippa's heart.

Thanks to God you (and your sister) are on the mend. The lineage chart is interesting. I didn’t know Herod had a child with Cleopatra.
Prayer For The Government Of Israel
Heavenly Father, I lift up the Prime Minster of Israel and the whole Kenesset, knowing that the Jewish nation are Your people and that the world at large seems to be turning their back on Israel as a nation, as prophesised in Your Word.
Give those in government the wisdom to make the right decisions and protect them I pray, from those that would seek their destruction. Lord, I pray that many in the government would seek Your face and prepare the nation to turn back to You as the only true God and only Protector of their nation, land and people.
I ask that You would continue to bless Your people with an understanding of the times, and I pray that many will come to hear the gospel and turn to Christ as their Messiah and Saviour.
Protect the government, those that are in the armed forces and those that are living in vulnerable places in the land and I pray for that day when Israel as a nation will turn back to seek Your face and come to recognise Jesus Christ as their God and Saviour. Father, I pray for the day when peace comes at last to that land, when Christ returns in power and great glory to set up his kingdom and I plead that many will come to recognise Who Jesus is and to trust Him as Saviour. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

I think it was a different Cleopatra. It actually was a common name back then. The famous Queen of the Nile was actually Cleopatra VII.
She died in 30BC.
She did spend some time in Caesaria, but it was when she was dallying with Marc Antony.
Thank you for that awesome prayer for Wisdom in Israel.
Jesus told us this was going to happen, but we still PRAY.

Not only Ick! but FATAL in Mariamne's case. (Herod the "Great" offed her for some unknown reason.)Then he went into serious mourning, even though HE was the one who killed her.

Psalm 125
A Song of Ascents.
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time on and for evermore.
3 For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest
on the land allotted to the righteous,
so that the righteous may not stretch out
their hands to do wrong.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are upright in their hearts.
5 But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with evildoers.
Peace be upon Israel!
