Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 21
Paul Arrested
27 When the seven days were nearly over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him, 28 shouting, “Fellow Israelites, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and our law and this place. And besides, he has brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place.” 29 (They had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with Paul and assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.)
30 The whole city was aroused, and the people came running from all directions. Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. 31 While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops that the whole city of Jerusalem was in an uproar. 32 He at once took some officers and soldiers and ran down to the crowd. When the rioters saw the commander and his soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.
33 The commander came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done. 34 Some in the crowd shouted one thing and some another, and since the commander could not get at the truth because of the uproar, he ordered that Paul be taken into the barracks. 35 When Paul reached the steps, the violence of the mob was so great he had to be carried by the soldiers. 36 The crowd that followed kept shouting, “Get rid of him!”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Wonderful and Magnificent is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The Most High!
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
And Omnipresent,
You Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from the End.
We Bless Your Name and Thank You,
Most Gracious and Hallowed LORD,
For Your Holy Word.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Back in 1996, I was doing a a one-woman-show in a Nursing Home in Medford. A gentleman in a WW2 Veteran's ball cap came up and asked if I did private gigs. When I answered in the affirmative, he asked me if I was available on December 7th to do a banquet. When I asked what the event was he replied that it was the 55th Reunion of the Massachusetts Chapter of Pearl Harbor Survivors. Well, OF COURSE I booked the gig without even checking my calendar. Whatever else may have been booked that day would have to be rescheduled.
It was a wonderful event, and all the guys wore Hawaiian Shirts, Leis, and a Pearl Grey military hat that was exclusive to Pearl Harbor Survivors.
I played mostly Big-Band Music, and there was a lot of dancing. These guys were GREAT! What a terrific audience. One of them looked familiar, and I realized it was my next-door neighbor. I had lived next door to him for 11 years and had no idea he was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. That was the type of Men they were.
Of all the performances I have done in the last 60 years, it was, to me, my crowning Gig of a Lifetime.
Now, over 80 years later, there are those who theorize that a breakdown in Communications, Intelligence, and even Negligence was the cause of the total surprise of the attack. Hindsight is naturally 20/20, with lots of pontificating how WE would have done things differently. Yet, the same things were said about the Attack on America on 9/11/01, and, now, the heinous attack in Israel on 10/7/23. No matter how sophisticated our surveillance systems are, there is no substitute for Human Intelligence and Good Judgment. Conversely, there is nothing quite as damaging to Truth and Justice than False Accusations, Rumors and Innuendo, Propaganda, and Fake News.
We see the results of this in Today's Reading. There was a false rumor that Paul was bringing Gentiles into the Temple Area where they were not allowed. This rumor began when one of Paul's friends, a Greek, was seen in the City. That was enough to get the rumor going.
The Romans who arrested Paul thought he was an Egyptian Terrorist. Even Paul's Christian brothers who were also Pharisees, thought that Paul was determined to destroy the Law of Moses. Since People are eager to display their supposed knowledge, they often take a little supposition and turn it into a BIG LIE. Here's a little ditty, that I wrote just this morning, and might turn into a song:
Those who are eager
To make sure that you know,
How much they know,
Probably don't know
As much as they think they know.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

How wonderful you played for Pearl Harbor survivors! I can see how that is one of your cherished memories.
Your lyric is truth as well. The world runs on pride.
Praying for the hostages of the demonic Palestinianian terrorists. You can see the trauma and despair in the faces of the women released.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
One of my high school classmates in Montana had a father who was a Pearl Harbor survivor. I didn’t know that until I read his obituary.

They were a different kind of hero back then.
Now everything is about "Bragging Rights".

Psalm 56
To the leader: according to The Dove on Far-off Terebinths. Of David. A Miktam, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
1 Be gracious to me, O God, for people trample on me;
all day long foes oppress me;
2 my enemies trample on me all day long,
for many fight against me.
O Most High, 3when I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I am not afraid;
what can flesh do to me?
5 All day long they seek to injure my cause;
all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They stir up strife, they lurk,
they watch my steps.
As they hoped to have my life,
7 so repay* them for their crime;
in wrath cast down the peoples, O God!
8 You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your record?
9 Then my enemies will retreat
on the day when I call.
This I know, that* God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 in God I trust; I am not afraid.
What can a mere mortal do to me?
12 My vows to you I must perform, O God;
I will render thank-offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
and my feet from falling,
so that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
