I love it when you post these beautiful paintings.
You have made that very apparent by your frequent expressions of appreciation, which contribute much..
Thank you, Dan!
Admire the work of Siemiradzki a lot (#11)
#15 Raphael
#24 Moreau
# 28 from the great Victorian era painter Edward Armitage
I haven’t seen a Siemiradzki which didn’t appeal to me.
69) That was Jacob’s well. She made a big deal of it, after Jesus promised “living water”.
70) Sounds fishy ...
71) Herod’s wife told Herod’s daughter to demand it.
72) “Who’s this [expletives deleted]! Let’s throw him off a cliff!”
#39 excellently illustrates the madness of the mob.
Really like #3, it captures for me the intimacy of the whole conversation.
Full credit!
One of the most famous and important ever conducted--and, despite its exclusive intimacy. we have the transcript!
I’m going to join the praise for Siemiradzki…and add a note for the fantastic Jekel, Moreau and Benjamin-Constant.
The Jekel reminds me of Rembrandt’s wonderful Christ calming the storm.
Benjamin-Constant found a way to show Herodias being just like everyone, communing with her sin nature while ignoring God.
She has a hedonistic quality in his treatment that comes through with more subtlety than you usually see. She could be a rich, bored flapper in the roaring 20’s.
John certainly chased away her boredom. He paved the Savior’s way all the way into the palace.
