I’m going to join the praise for Siemiradzki…and add a note for the fantastic Jekel, Moreau and Benjamin-Constant.

The Jekel reminds me of Rembrandt’s wonderful Christ calming the storm.

Benjamin-Constant found a way to show Herodias being just like everyone, communing with her sin nature while ignoring God.

She has a hedonistic quality in his treatment that comes through with more subtlety than you usually see. She could be a rich, bored flapper in the roaring 20’s.
