44He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed. second pers. sing. pers. pronoun Jesus was addressing "the chief priests and the elders of the people" not the nation of Israel, which endures forever.
The kingdom of God (authority) would be taken from "you, singular" (perhaps looking the Chief/High Priest in the eye ?) and given to Gentiles, who otherwise were excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, not replacing Israel as the Apostle of the Gentiles taught the Gentiles who believe.
Ephesians 2:
[11] Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
[12] That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Romans 11:
[25] For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
[26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
[27] For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
[29] For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. , "them" (Israelites, sons of Jacob, House of Israel and House of Judah)
God's promises and love for Israel is eternal, as long as the the ordinances of heaven and earth last (Jeremiah), and even when those eventually fall, even so His love for Israel endures (
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.) and the Gentiles who are genuine Christians, who love the Jews, will rejoice; the others will be ashamed.
Matthew 24:
[34] Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
[35] Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
[36] But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
