Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 16
Paul’s Vision of the Man of Macedonia
6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our God and Heavenly Father,
How Holy is Your Name!
Thank You For Giving Us Hope,
Perseverance,
Stamina,
and Determination,
And Thank You for Giving Us Clear Direction,
even when we seem to forget.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

There was a time in my life when I measured everything by November 22, 1963. I was in the sixth grade, and on Fridays we were released early to attend Religious Education at the Church or Synagogue of our parent's choice. (I know that sounds bizarre to you in these hedonistic times, but it's the truth!) Right in the middle of our class, a person came into the room and whispered something to the teacher.
"Go Home everybody, said the teacher."The President has been SHOT."
It didn't register at first. WHAT "president" did she mean? The president of the church? The president of the Parent-Teacher Council? The president of the school? SURELY SHE DIDN'T MEAN PRESIDENT KENNEDY!
Dutifully we filed out of the church school, and boarded the MTA bus, which was filled with people listening to their transistor radios and openly weeping. It was the biggest trauma of my young life.
What made matters worse was that my whole family was moving to a new community on the following Monday, and that was my last day of school in Hyde Park. Because Monday would be The National Day of Mourning, there would be no Moving Vans, Gas or Electric Companies providing hookup, Telephone Installations, or stores open. So there was Mom, pregnant with her 6th child, and the rest of us in the now house, on a dreary gloomy day, with no furniture, a B & W TV set that was showing non-stop assassination news, no telephone service, and no food. My brother and I brought a picnic table in from the yard and then walked to a 24-Hour Convenience store that WAS open, and bought a loaf of Wonder Bread, a can of Bumble Bee Tuna (white, packed in water!), a Jar of Mayonnaise, and a half gallon of milk. Mom made sandwiches and we ate at the picnic table, watching Walter Cronkite wipe away tears in Black and White.
A boy my brother's age came across the street and introduced himself. His name was Victor, who later introduced my brother to a man named Skip, who is now reading this, and was the instrument God used to bring me to belief in Jesus many years later. (Hi Skip!)
Now, if that isn't coincidence enough, here is what I wrote about this particular Passage of Scripture back in 2018:
With her sixth child on the way, Mom realized that our two-bedroom house was too small, so in the 60's, my family moved to another neighborhood in Boston which had older, more spacious homes. It was a bit of a culture shock to me, as all our neighbors were Greek. The spoke Greek, went to a Greek Church, played Greek Music, had HUGE Greek Weddings, and played SOCCER instead of Football! (Years later, there was a movie based upon this theme, and it was very funny at the time because it was true). There was a heroic statue of Alexander the Great in the public park (which I thought was very weird!) and people had a strange bumper-sticker on their cars that said "MACEDONIA IS GREECE". At first, I felt like a stranger, but then soon got into the rhythm of life in the community, and was eating Feta Cheese and Hummus long before these foods became popular in the rest of the country. (I might add, that these immigrants learned English, worked hard, became citizens, and were VERY hardworking and patriotic people).
Years later, when I wanted to study the New Testament in depth, I figured it would be a cinch to learn Greek, since I had been immersed in the culture so long ago. Then I realized that the Greek words that I had picked up on the street were NOT in the New Testament!
Due to the influence of the aforementioned Alexander, Greek culture was ubiquitous in the First Century. Greek was the universal language that allowed Romans, Egyptians, Jews, and Syrians to communicate with each other. The Old Testament was translated into Greek in what is now called "The Septuagint" because of the 70 Scholars who worked on the translation.
The unfortunate aspect of this was that Jewish Culture and Religion was being merged into Greek Culture, so there were people called "Hellenized Jews". This caused friction in the community. We can see it all through the Book of Acts, with Gentiles being referred to as "Greeks" no matter what their ethnicity.
Here, Paul dreams of an unmistakably Greek man asking Paul to come to actual Greece to bring the Gospel. And so, it's time for another Missionary Journey.
There is speculation that the Macedonian Man in Paul's Vision was actually Luke, the Author of the Book of Acts. This is supported by the mention of Luke joining Paul in Troas, and the first instance of the Author using the term "WE" to describe Paul's Second Missionary Journey.

Psalm 82
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 God has taken his place in the divine council;
in the midst of the gods he holds judgement:
2 ‘How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked?
Selah
3 Give justice to the weak and the orphan;
maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute.
4 Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.’
5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
they walk around in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 I say, ‘You are gods,
children of the Most High, all of you;
7 nevertheless, you shall die like mortals,
and fall like any prince.’*
8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth;
for all the nations belong to you!

I have great memories working with the Macedonian army on deployments. In general hard working, appreciate, friendly people. They’ve been through so much.
