Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 14

The Return to Antioch in Syria

21 They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. 23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders[a] for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. 24 After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia, 25 and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

26 From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Blessed is Your Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
Wash us Clean, Oh LORD,
And Clothe Us In Your Righteousness.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Steven, my bass teacher, was an incredible musician. He toured with Peter Frampton for many years and was a Session Musician with lots of famous people. I had mixed feelings about the Awesome Gig he had just landed, because it would take him away for several months, which meant, of course, NO BASS LESSONS FOR ME. I know...it was selfish of me to be upset, because this was the Gig-Of-A-Lifetime. A brand new cruise ship, more elegant than all the others that put out to sea from Ft. Lauderdale's Port Everglades, was about to do the Transatlantic Crossing, and then cruise the Mediterranean, stopping at many of the Greek Islands and the Coastal Towns of Turkey. The Musicians were part of the Crew, so they got Shore Leave at all the Ports of Call. A lot of the places Steven visited are mentioned in The Book of Acts. The pictures Steven sent back were breathtaking. God forgive me, but I was REALLY JEALOUS. Oh well, Jerusalem wasn't a Port of Call, because it's landlocked, and I HAVE been there. That was worth more than the Cruise to me.

In 1983, Billy Graham came to Boston and had a week-long crusade at Nickerson Field at Boston University. My sister Patty and I were in the Choir. We went on my motorcycle (of course it RAINED), and stashed our helmets under the risers. Here's what I wrote about that experience, many years ago:

When Evangelist Billy Graham passed away recently, I shared the story of how I ended up in the huge Crusade Choir, singing for a week in the rain at Boston University's Nickerson Field. Cliff Barrows was the Music Director, and I learned teaching techniques from him that I still use in teaching voice.

What I didn't get into was the preparation and follow-up that made the Crusade much more than the "Hit and Run Evangelism" accusation that sometimes has been leveled at the organization.

My tiny, inner-city church received excellent training materials weeks prior to the event. Those who were in the Choir attended a huge three-hour rehearsal at BU's indoor arena, and we were also trained in counseling the new believers who would come forward at the crusade. Cards were filled out so that free Bibles and Study Materials could be sent. Local Churches of various denominations opened their doors to new people. You get the picture.

Paul's First missionary Journey was like that. Here, in the book of Acts, Paul is described as ordaining Elders and Shepherds to nurture the Flock, training and encouraging new believers, and ultimately, bringing their concerns to the Apostles in Jerusalem.

And Paul didn't even have Television to get his Message out there!

As we go through The Book of Acts, we see that Paul appointed people to keep things going after he left the town. He didn't just breeze through, give his message, and leave. It wasn't like Steven's Mediterranean Cruise either. The places were the same, but the ships he traveled on were nasty. Not at all like the Gig-Of-A-Lifetime!

Well...maybe it was. It was the first of four "Missionary Journeys" that Paul would undergo, that would ultimately bring him to Rome.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 126

A Song of Ascents.

1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,*
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then it was said among the nations,
‘The Lord has done great things for them.’
3 The Lord has done great things for us,
and we rejoiced.

4 Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like the watercourses in the Negeb.
5 May those who sow in tears
reap with shouts of joy.
6 Those who go out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves.
