Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 14
In Lystra and Derbe
8 In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. 9 He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed 10 and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.
11 When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!” 12 Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker. 13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them.
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting: 15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them. 16 In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” 18 Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.
19 Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven
Hallowed be Your Most Holy Name!
How We Long For Your Kingdom,
How We Wait For Your Will to be Done,
Here on earth, as it already is, in Heaven!
You Are Our Peace,
Our Wholeness,
Our Shalom,
Our Security,
Our Prosperity,
and Our Future.
We are nothing without You.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

In September of 2022, Two of my sisters and I went together for a once-in-a-lifetime concert. Eric Clapton was playing at the Boston Garden, and we had purchased our tickets well in advance. None of us had ever seen the great guitarist in concert before, and ALL of us are getting older by the minute. (Eric is even older than I am, and that's saying something!) The opening act was terrific, but when Eric stepped out on the stage there was an outpouring of LOVE from the mostly middle-aged audience. Before Eric's concert began, he launched into a simple, elegant, and reverant version of "God Save The Queen". Eric Clapton, a British subject, was paying homage to Queen Elizabeth II, who had passed away less than a week earlier. This was not a form of "worship" but just a remembrance and respect. My sister and I sang along, but only knew one verse of "God Save the Queen", and Eric played TWO verses. Almost automatically, Sis and I sang the second verse of "America" which uses the same tune:
"Our Father, God, to Thee
Author of Liberty, To THEE we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With Freedom's Holy Light,
Protect us by Thy Might,
Great God Our King.
Strange, we learned those lyrics in PUBLIC SCHOOL a half-century ago.
In the sixth grade (1963-1964), we were encouraged to have pen-pals around the world. This was, of course, YEARS before e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter were even dreamed of. I had three. My favorite was a boy in Kowloon named Chan Kam Wah, who wrote to me faithfully for many years. I also wrote to a boy in Japan named Yojiro Iwamoto, who sent me a picture of himself in a severe-looking school uniform. I had another pen-pal, not nearly so exotic, in London. Perhaps because she had a normal-sounding English name, I can't remember what it was, but she sent me a letter in January of 1964 that would change my life forever. It went something like this:
Dear Mary-Lou, I urge you to tune into your telly in February to watch the Ed Sullivan programme, as my favourite pop group will be appearing. Do watch it, as I think you will enjoy it tremendously. The group is called "The Beatles".
"Well, that's silly," I thought. "She spelled "Beetles" wrong. Maybe it's a British thing? After all, she spells other words differently too!"
So I dutifully waited for that fateful day, February 9th, 1964 and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. In fact, it was then that I decided I wanted to be a musician, and so it changed the course of my life.
What was troubling though, was the reactions of the audience. The screaming and weeping were akin to worship. The Beatles eventually had to cease performing live shows because the audiences were so unruly. One could not even HEAR the music anymore. Perhaps it was the point when Rock Concerts got so loud that many of us musicians from that era suffer hearing loss now (including me).
In the days before microphones and amplifiers, music and plays were performed in bowl-shaped amphitheaters, the ruins of which can be seen all around the Mediterranean today. Even with the natural acoustics of these places, the crowds had to be perfectly quiet to hear anything. In several instances in the Book of Acts, Paul used these "Theaters" to spread the Gospel.
What Paul did NOT like was when he got a "Beatlemania" response to his Message. Because his ministry included healing and deliverance, people assumed that Paul was one of their traditional "gods". And so, they brought garlands of flowers, incense, and animal sacrifices to him. This was, of course, a horrible violation of everything Paul stood for! He was mortified by this behavior and begged the people to "JUST STOP IT!" We are humans just like you. Worship the one True God, and Him Only.
And to that I say, "AMEN!"
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 138
Of David.
1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down towards your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name and your word
above everything.*
3 On the day I called, you answered me,
you increased my strength of soul.*
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
5 They shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly;
but the haughty he perceives from far away.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
and your right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
Paul did rise from the dead—only through the grace of God.
Interesting, one of surviving Beetles is Paul.
I remember when the Beetle debuted on Ed Sulivan. My brother and I hid behind the bookcase/divider. He said to me—”Look at those guys in a ‘Moe’ haircut.” (He was referring to Curly, Larry, and Moe of the Three Stooges.)
