Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 12
Peter’s Miraculous Escape From Prison
12 It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. 4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.
8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.
11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.”
12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”
15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”
16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this,” he said, and then he left for another place.
18 In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter. 19 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.

As many of you have deduced from these threads, I LOVE Archaeology. From Machu Picchu to Egypt, to walls beneath the sea in Micronesia, to cairns and mounds in Ireland, to mysterious Native-American earthworks in our own country, to ancient castles and ruined cathedrals in Europe...I love 'em all! But, by far, my favorite "digs" are in the Holy Land, and I have been privileged to visit and explore quite a few of them.
Since I no longer am able to travel to exotic places, I still have a queue of Cable Stations that have many Archaeology programs. However, even on the so-called "Science" channel, these tend to just scratch the surface, keeping it at a "Pop Culture" level. Oh well. There are still those funny little antique thingies called "BOOKS" which I still enjoy!
Biblical Archaeology poses a problem for these TV Programs. Nearly every day, there are finds which indicate that the Bible is more than just a religious book. Finds like a coin from the correct time before Christ that is inscribed with the name of King David, bits of Hezekiah's defensive wall, and a water system fitting the exact description in the Bible that tourists can walk right through from one end to another. Discoveries around the Temple Mount have the Mosque Authorities frantically digging everything up before Archaeologists can say, "Gosh...there WAS a Jewish Temple Here!"
One of the things I have noticed is that scientists who are not believers will accept ANY explanation or theory as long as it's not the Biblical one. Sometimes the only way to explain the miraculous is to posit Divine Intervention. But that would be too much to ask. Better yet, describe the parting of the Red Sea to the Eruption on Santarini, or the Ten Plagues to Climate Change. Or even the ubiquitous Space Aliens. After all, they built the pyramids and Machu Picchu, so why not get involved in Egyptian politics while they were at it!
The point of today's musings is, of course, the disbelief we seem to experience when confronted with the Miraculous. We are not alone. Rhoda and her fellow Christians were less than one generation away from the greatest Miracle of All (The Word Became Flesh and Dwelt Among Us) and yet they had difficulty accepting that God had sprung Peter from prison. Their alternative explanations were as weird as the Space Alien Theory. "Maybe it's his Ghost! Maybe it's his Guardian Angel!" I can just see the fuzzy-haired "Ancient Aliens" Guy Giorgio A. Tsoukalos saying "Is Such A Thing Possible?"
I have two favorite Biblical Archaeology Sites, but there haven't been any recent postings due to the War. There are, however, many videos that you can watch on both sites:

Prayers for God’s nation of Israel and His chosen people. Prayers for those who aren’t yet ready to be snatched away. Thank you God, for all the blessings, protection and mercy you have poured out upon us as a nation. Comfort our broken hearts as we see your people suffer and our nation dying. We trust in You for whatever comes next in Your plan for America. Thanks to You, Lord Jesus, for never leaving or forsaking us. Amen.

Proverbs 1: 20-33
20 Wisdom cries out in the street;
in the squares she raises her voice.
21 At the busiest corner she cries out;
at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22 ‘How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools hate knowledge?
23 Give heed to my reproof;
I will pour out my thoughts to you;
I will make my words known to you.
24 Because I have called and you refused,
have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,
25 and because you have ignored all my counsel
and would have none of my reproof,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when panic strikes you,
27 when panic strikes you like a storm,
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
they will seek me diligently, but will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 would have none of my counsel,
and despised all my reproof,
31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way
and be sated with their own devices.
32 For waywardness kills the simple,
and the complacency of fools destroys them;
33 but those who listen to me will be secure
and will live at ease, without dread of disaster.’
