Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 11

Peter Explains His Actions

11 The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”

4 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

9 “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ 10 This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

11 “Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. 12 The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. 13 He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. 14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’

15 “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with[a] water, but you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.’ 17 So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”

18 When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba, Father Who Art in Heaven,
Blessed Be Your Holy Name!
How we love to sing Your praises,
To Lift Up Your Holy Name in Worship,
For You Alone are Worthy of Praise.
For You are Holy,
Righteous and Just,
And Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.
Perfect in All Your Ways
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
And Lord of Lords!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

When I was a kid, being a "Smart Alec" was one of my cherished functions. I figured I knew everything, and for amusement I READ the Encyclopedia. This did not endear me to my classmates, and I wasn't popular, but the TEACHERS loved me. (That made things worse!). Anyway, I was quite proud of myself that I knew a big long word, that was allegedly the longest word in the English language. The word was, of course, Antidisestablishmentarianism. I didn't know what the word actually meant, but I thought it had something to do with religion. That didn't concern me too much, because, like a lot of people, I believed that one's nationality determined one's religion. It went something like this:

1. If you were Irish or Italian, you were Catholic.
2. If You were German, you were Lutheran.
3. If you came from England, you were Episcopal
4. If You were Black or came from the South, you were Baptist.
5. If you were Jewish, you were born that way and didn't celebrate Christmas.
6. If you were Chinese, you were a Buddhist.
7. If you were Arab, you were Muslim.
And so on.

Although my detailed analysis of World Religions was extremely naive and definitely NOT TRUE, it seemed to be a common opinion, especially back in the 1950's. Imagine my confusion when my best friend in Junior High was Lebanese, spoke Arabic at home, and came from a long line of BAPTISTS!

Antidisestablishmentarianism, indeed!

As anyone following this thread can attest, artists and illustrators often inject their own culture into the costumes, scenery, hairstyles, and attitudes of their subject matter. Ancient catacomb paintings show Jesus as a beardless Greek Youth, Medieval frescoes show Cornelius in the Armor of the Middle Ages, and Renaissance paintings show a background of the Tuscan Hills. Even modern attempts at historical realism contain cultural bias. In order to look like ancient times, the subjects seem to always be coated in dust! The notion that everybody lived in grinding filth in the past is brilliantly satirized by Monte Python in the movie "Monte Python and the Holy Grail." The incredible advances in Digital Media can't completely remove cultural bias, and art will always be tinted by the artist's own prejudices.

So here we have Peter, facing his colleagues, who have actually WALKED with Jesus, sat at His Feet learning, witnessed countless miracles, and were eyewitnesses to the Execution, Burial, Resurrection, and Ascension of their beloved master, and they accused:

“You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”

So, my FRiends, don't be surprised if this ever happens to YOU! And, never be afraid to just tell The Truth. Jesus is for Everybody, Jew, Gentile, Man, Woman, Slave, or Free, of every nationality, ethnicity, and language.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Prayer To Be Guided Into All Truth

Heavenly Father, I come to You in poverty of spirit, to seek Your face during a time when the truth of Your Word seems to be being attacked on every side, and few seem to know or understand about the truth of Scripture. Father, it is sometimes hard to know what is true in a world when everything to do with God is being attacked, not only in the secular arena but in many Christian ministries as well.

You promised that Your Holy Spirit would guide Your children into all truth, especially those that seek You with all their whole hearts and Lord, I want to seek You and know You more and more but Lord, I do not want to be influenced by wrong doctrine or false teaching.

Keep me I pray, and guide me in my life as I read Your Word and study the scriptures. Prevent me Lord, from being swept into the many false doctrines that are sweeping through Christendom today. Give me a discerning heart I pray, and help me to find a teacher that will teach me the whole council of Your Word of Truth so that I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You Father, in Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
