Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 9

Aeneas and Dorcas

32 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the Lord’s people who lived in Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years. 34 “Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. 35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.

36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”

39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. 42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. 43 Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven
Blessed and Hallowed is Your Holy Name!
We are so grateful for Your Tender Mercies,
And Your Mighty Hand in Our Lives!
For You are Perfect in All Your Ways
Your Ways and Thoughts are so above our understanding,
And Always so Right!
You Are Holy, Righteous and Just,
And Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Although the Sewing Machine was invented before the American Civil War, most stitching was still done by hand. Ladies were taught this craft by making embroidered samplers and quilts, and eventually clothing. Although the wealthy had "Dressmakers" young women were still expected to be able to "sew a fine seam" as part of their education.

In the book "Gone With The Wind", Scarlet O'Hara needs a new dress to impress. Since there is no fabric available, she uses her mother's green velvet draperies to make the dress, which comes out perfect. (Carol Burnett did a hilarious parody of this scene, with the curtain rod left in. LOL)

In "Fiddler on the Roof" there is a celebration when The Tailor gets a new Sewing Machine. And, in the 80's, there was a huge resurgence of the fine art of American Quilting that swept the nation. Both my Nana and my Mom were excellent seamstresses, and they taught me.

Someone who can sew is a real asset to the community. I have hauled out the sewing machine many times for someone who needed a quick repair, a costume, or a wedding dress. But my favorite achievements have always been the things I have made by hand.

One can only imagine how special Tabitha was to the community. Because of her kind and loving heart, she sewed (by hand!) garments and robes for the widows of her congregation. From the context, it is easy to infer that she did this on her own, without being assigned or coerced. Her talent was dedicated to helping her neighbors who were less talented or less fortunate than herself.

Whatever a person's gift or talent, it can be used by the Kingdom of God. If it is forced, or done for the wrong motives, it is worthless, but if it comes from the heart, it is precious. A simple widow's robe made by hand by Tabitha will ALWAYS be more beautiful that that awesome green velvet dress made from "Miss Ellen's Portiers".

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 93

1 The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength.
He has established the world; it shall never be moved;
2 your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.

3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
4 More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,
more majestic than the waves* of the sea,
majestic on high is the Lord!

5 Your decrees are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
O Lord, for evermore.
