Etymology
From bench + mark. Originally (attested circa 1842) a mark cut into a stone by land surveyors to secure a "bench" (from 19th century land surveying jargon, meaning a type of bracket), to mount measuring equipment. Figurative sense attested circa 1884.[1]

A standard by which something is evaluated or measured.
A surveyor's mark made on some stationary object and shown on a map; used as a reference point.

The term benchmark, bench mark, or survey benchmark originates from the chiseled horizontal marks that surveyors made in stone structures, into which an angle iron could be placed to form a "bench" for a leveling rod, thus ensuring that a leveling rod could be accurately repositioned in the same place in the future. These marks were usually indicated with a chiseled arrow below the horizontal line. A benchmark is a type of survey marker.

Database
In the U.S., survey marks that meet certain standards for accuracy are part of a national database that is maintained by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS).[6] Each station mark in the database has a PID (Permanent IDentifier), a unique 6-character code that can be used to call up a datasheet describing that station.[7]

It's simply a fact that Hebrew words have numeric values, for example. I am aware that "numerology" is a word that serves to denigrate mathematical realities and trigger the "math is hard" automatons.

Your posts remind me... that at the end of John's Gospel account (which is also the end of the four Gospels), he was involved in and recorded an interesting line of events (thanks KJV translators -- nice touch with the dangling participle, ambiguous antecedents)

Now here's a real head-scratcher (/s, just in case):

John of all people. The one who ended up on some island basically on his own on account of the word of God, to watch the surf roll in or whatever else appeared in view.

Of course, there's actually some debate out there if the John who was given the Revelation of Jesus Christ is the same John who wrote the Gospel of John. I'm merely pointing that out.

Well, who's John, anyway? John might even be the most common name on the planet, what with all the language variants.

John pretty much could be anyone. John Doe... John the Apostle... John the Baptist...

Even Elijah. You know, the Hebrew Scriptures record that he ascended into heaven on a whirlwild without seeing death, but then as the New Testament says, he returned as a new baby named John. That's just what's in there on either side, regardless of who believes what. The name John kind of mushroomed from there.

New parents, new home town. There's an entire scene with Zacharias praying in the Temple and then when Gabriel shows up in answer to his prayers... Zecharias was like Wait, Wut? We're told old for that. (I'm paraphrasing, but of course the eagle-eyed types might be on high alert).

I mean if he were praying directly for a son, what was the issue? Who even thinks to ask.

Imagine... an entire nation came forth from parents who were "too old". He could have drawn on the obvious history lesson and embraced the report, eager to pick up a romantic CD on his way home.. fancy candles.. special wine..

The information channels are so corrupted with exciting reports that if the Messiah believed the settled doctrines -- what everyone "knows" -- he'd never be able to recognize himself.

Now this is just my opinion, but it seems to me like that *is* the purpose of the party line. The whole idea is to keep the "bad man" away under the color of law and/or love, because he's the one who would inform people that their sins are forgiven so you all can knock it off and get on up now and get busy with a little building project.

That would cause a stampede like that meme with the little boy holding up the "Dad" sign.

Whatever all that is... is simply information and commentary/analysis from multiple angles.

Prevailing mentalities gravitate toward snacks -- pre-packaged theories and interpretations, sort of like picking a tourist itinerary in order to see Rome, or Beijing.

At best the tour is a sanitized version; at worst it's total deception. No such thing as a half-truth, though.

Seems like few have the interest in, capacity for, or the time for direct discovery of whatever is actually out there, in its proper balance and order.

Joseph had been sold down the river. It's not just a river in Egypt. There's always hope, however, because Mr. Sandman (Ish HaChol, איש החול, the chutz la'aretz man), is the "lord of dreams", and Egypt is world-famous for all of its treasures discovered and yet to be discovered in the sands of time.

A Hebrew equivalent to dream on is אתה חי בסרט to a male, and את חיה בסרט to a female -- literally, you're living in a movie. It can be used not only as a refusal of an offer, but also as a way of giving the person you're speaking with a reality check -- get real.
