You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Our Lord and our God
How Blessed We Are,
To Be Able To Read Your Word,
And See Your Plan Unfold Before Our Eyes.
To See The Provision and Protection That You Provide.
Let us Remember
That you Will Not Call Us Without Protecting Us,

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

The following several chapters of the Gospel of John are the words of Jesus at the Passover Table. There may have been many more words spoken that night, as the dinner would have taken several hours. Jesus had just given His Disciples some bad news: He was about to be betrayed by one of them, and handed over for execution. Up till now, everything that Jesus had said had come true. Of Course they were upset! They had committed themselves to this Teacher, only to have Him be put to death?

My brother and his new bride were very upset. They had just purchased a 200-year-old farmhouse on acres of wooded property with the assurance that the area would not be over-developed. They had even arranged, as part of the purchase price, to put $30,000 in escrow to dig their own well and septic system, as no municipal services were planned for that area.

Then, the elderly person in the property across the street passed away. The son of the deceased had no desire to live in the farmhouse, work the farm, or even just sell the property as-is to an interested buyer. Instead, he planned on bulldozing the entire property, clear-cutting all the trees to sell as lumber, and then building 20 so-called "McMansions" without a single shrub or tree for years to come until new ones could grow up. This would also mean that the town would have to extend water and sewer lines to the property, widen the street, raise taxes to provide services and schools to all the new people, and put in new traffic controls. The same developer had done something similar in an adjoining town, and it was a disaster.

My brother had not been deceived when he bought his farmhouse; as these were all circumstances that occurred after he had passed papers.

I said that it probably wouldn't happen, because the property was right on an important river. Still, there was great cause for concern. I told my brother to attend the very next town meeting and make sure his voice got heard.

A few weeks later, my brother told me that the town did NOT approve the plan, and the property was sold as a farmhouse. The ugliness of the development in the adjoining town was the deciding factor. While neither of us are extreme die-hard environmentalists, both of us could see that the "Many McMansions" would, in this case, destroy the community.

When Jesus said "In My Father's House There Are Many Mansions" He wasn't talking about a row of buildings like the one that was planned across the street from my brother. Unfortunately, the normally lofty and beautiful King James version used that particular word, and it has stuck. Be assured. It will NOT look like Southeastern Massachusetts!
