I wanted to be a Catholic, but I couldn’t afford a good enough attorney. All of their theological treatises read like a brief in a securities fraud case. Turns out Jesus is rather simple.
The thing that truly IRRITATES me about the “teachings” (LOL) that claim 70 AD as the Return of Christ is that it is so selective.
It only incorporates a few aspects and points of Scripture.
Therefore, it is intellectually lazy and dishonest.
Bottom line, Heaven has not yet arrived on earth and the weeds are still here.
Do not believe any new “prophets.” Any preacher or scholar or new theory active since the 1960s should be viewed with particular suspicion or skepticism.
1-Nero was AN 'Antichrist', and it is clear there will be many.
2-The destruction of Jerusalem was the fulfillment of Christ's prophecy that this generation will not pass without seeing the destruction, but there is NO assertion against future Tribulations which are clearly to come.
3-"God replaced Old Testament Israel with the Church." is nonsense phrasing as Christ makes clear he has made a New Covenant, but has not changed the old law.
4-"Armageddon already happened in AD 70. Satan is already bound in the abyss and cannot hinder the spread of the Gospel."
This is taught NOWHERE in the church!
As stated before, there will certainly be future great Tribulations, and NOWHERE is it claimed the Satan is already bound and can't interfere with the spread of the Gospel!
5-Rev. 20 HAS NOT 'already been fulfilled'!
6-There IS a bodily resurrection after "the Second Coming of Christ'! (Not a 3rd as would be supposed by Rapturists)
I attended a Preterist church for a while, having no notion of what Preterism was. No only do they reject future prophecies, they reject Old Testament prophecies that prophesied of Christ’s first coming. Psalm 22 clearly speaks of Christ, not the Preterist pastor told me he knows of no one who believes that. I left.
Considering Jesus’ warnings in Matt. 24 about being deceived and Peter’s warnings about false teachers rising up within the church at the time of the end, discernment seems like it will be in short supply but the commodity most needed by believers as we accelerate to the close of the Age. As Keith Green sang regarding Satan, “I’m gonna make it dark before the dawn, cause no one believes in me anymore.” He’s going to give it his best shot - but it won’t stop Christ’s return! Trim your lamps, watch and pray and be faithful unto death. Jesus promised a rich reward!
Get the time frame right, and the whole New Testament pops into vivid focus and makes sense. Get the time frame wrong, and you might well spiral into immediate irrelevance, and a much lower quality of life.
The state-of-the-art best eschatology, postmillennialism, usually includes some form of preterism. Most of the prophecies in the Olivet Discourse, and John's more detailed retelling of that discourse in prophetic (visual, right-brain) imagery, refers to the Jewish War, which lasted 7 years, started on schedule 40 years after Jesus pronounced God's pending judgment upon "this generation," and kicked the feet out from under the Kingdom of God's two chief enemies -- Rome, and apostate Israel.
Get the time frame right, and you can even explain Apocalypse to Turkish Muslims in a way that makes sense.

Hilarious that you would post about the perils of Preterism, when in response to the Protestant Reformation, It was the Catholic Church that came up with this false theory, ALONG WITH FUTURISM, the forerunner of the Pre-Tribulation-Rapture. This was part of the COUNTER REFORMATION by the Catholic Church, and specifically the Jesuits. Literally every single Reformer stated that the Papacy was the Antichrist, EVERY SINGLE REFORMER, clearly shown in prophecy. You dump on Preterism, but you fell for Futurism. Deny all you want. It is HISTORICAL FACT, not made up by some SDA cult member (LOL). The Papacy tried to get the Reformers to buy into it. The Reformers told them to get lost. Millions will lose their salvation because of it. It is one of the greatest lies ever devised by Satan (same goes for OSAS/OJAJ...know anyone that believes in that?)
The false Pre-Tribulation Rapture theory/doctrine can be DIRECTLY traced back to the Catholic Church and the Counter Reformation theory of FUTURISM. It’s not even debatable. It’s a matter of HISTORY. IT HAPPENED. IT IS FACT.
