(2 Peter 1:20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (Isaiah 28:10) For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isaiah 28:13) But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Golly!

This was part of our SS lesson yesterday!

It was pointed out that the Gentiles were not mentioned.

But when someone brings up *petra* and *Petros* and appeals to the Greek, suddenly the Greek is of no consequence?

Same with the brothers, and sisters of Jesus. Suddenly, the Greek doesn’t mean what the Greek means. Then I saw someone post that said Joseph was a widower, who already had James and Jude, before he married Mary. LOL. Where on earth 🌍 did that come from. It’s hogwash. Mary and Joseph did the evil deed, they had sex, resulting in a bunch of kids. 😂😄

I forgot to mention. I took a few Greek words and phrases to my Greek friend, here in this south sea island paradise. He also knows Hebrew. He said the Greek words for brothers and sisters, mean exactly that. Indicating all from the same mother. They were not cousins of Jesus. It’s a completely different Greek word, but hey, we can ignore the true meaning of the Greek, if it suits us, right? Uh, no, we can’t. Greek is one of the most precise languages on earth. It says what it means. I am pretty sure that is why God chose Greek, because of its accuracy. 😁😄😆

I stake (just about) everything I know and believe about “literal” Israel, on this video. Bible texts galore with full explanation. Yes, SOME EGW commentary, but not much (all supported by the bible). At 26:20 he gets real. At 42:47 he discusses “does the church replace Israel?” I just finished watching it again, for maybe the 5th time.

This IS what the SDA church believes, as CLEARLY stated in the bible.

LITERAL Israel is finished, AS A CHOSEN PEOPLE. It is clearly discussed in this video.

So, you don’t believe that Daniel’s 70 prophetic weeks are 490 literal years?

Elsie, say it now for all to hear. Hear ye, Hear ye...

What your Greek friend may have failed to mention is that the Greek Orthodox, indeed there have been millions throughout the centuries for whom Greek was the native tongue, believe that Miriam/Mary was always a virgin.

The Greek language in the Gospels also calls Jesus the son (υἱός) of Joseph. His neighbors, it seems, thought he was the son of Joseph and, if Joseph had children from a prior marriage (as the Orthodox believe), his brothers and sisters.

This discussion reflects whether one accepts the authority of the one holy catholic and apostolic church, or takes a modern view, for even the early Protestants, so it seems, accepted that she remained a virgin.

The Second Council of Constantinople recognized Mary as Aeiparthenos, meaning "ever-virgin".[9] It remains axiomatic for the Eastern Orthodox Church that she remained virginal throughout her Earthly life, and Orthodoxy therefore understands the New Testament references to the brothers and sisters of Jesus as signifying his kin, but not the biological children of his mother.

The Second Council of Constantinople is the fifth of the first seven ecumenical councils recognized by both the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church. It is also recognized by the Old Catholics and others. Protestant opinions and recognition of it are varied. Some Protestants, such as Calvinists, recognize the first four councils,[2] whereas Lutherans and most Anglo-Catholics accept all seven.

So what?

Truth is not decided or established by consensus or longevity.

It doesn't matter how long someone has belivved something, or how many people believe it. All that means is lots of people were wrong for a long time.

SO, maybe you can tell me because no other Catholic has stepped up to answer this.

Why if Mary being a perpetual virgin so important to Catholics when it is not prophesied in Scripture nor supported by the gospel texts?

Why if Mary being a perpetual virgin so important to Catholics

Because we love her, as the Mother given us from the Cross.
(And, its a good thing for us,
none of Jesus' many blood brothers or sisters -
not a one -
stuck around for the Cross. Wink, wink.)
We love her because Christ loved her, even more.

Question for you...:
So if you have deemed important things
have to be "prophesied in scripture or supported by the Gospel"...
Why do YOU go to Church on Sunday as Sabbath Worship...
When Holy God-Breathed Scripture
clearly tells you to honor the seventh day sabbath?
Am I missing that Sunday Worship prophesy
somewhere in the Bible?

Even if they are lied to. Too much false doctrine out there. 😁

I understand. However you tried to appeal to a Greek friend as a language authority to support a modern teaching which I then countered by showing that the majority of Orthodox Greek bishops knew the language far better than any of us, and hold to Miriam/Mary being ever virgin.

Weird; eh?

Why keep the KJV when it has alleged errors and NOT use the JST?

Just another of the unfathomable mysteries of MormonISM.

Weird? only to those who lack understanding,

What alleged errors?? You know better. The JST is heavily quoted in footnotes to the KJV as you also well know. Not only that, the LDS Church does not print the JST, as you also know. Are you attempting to deceive or only distort?

Mysteries, maybe, unfathomable, not at all. It is one reason God has told us we are to uncork the mysteries. Another lead line just for you.

Could it be the vaunted Elsie is also aware that handcart companies were primarily used from 1856 to 1860. That’s five years out of the 1847 to 1869 foot, wagon and horse traffic to Utah territory, prior to completion of the transcontinental railroad.

I don’t accept the ever virgin thing, and neither does my friend. I don’t care if a 3 billion people believe it. I don’t, and never will. I did, when I was in another religion, but I don’t now.

Are you afraid to research your chosen religious beginnings??

I’m sure I have read at least as many anti-Mormon publications as you, as well as the lesser LDS writings dealing with all the supposed historical controversies. I remain convinced there is enough horse hockey to confuse mankind that his chosen path is correct. Despite the fact that path may not conform to the Bible has he understands denominational doctrinal confusion.

In the end it will all come out. The question in all of our minds is what leeway there might be for the believers who are deceived about principle. There are going to be post return of Christ, more than one Christian denomination on earth and I’m not sure how many non Christian. How that all shakes out and the years of tribulation between now and his coming will be interesting to say the least.

Not to mention the two giant events that take place somewhere in the heavenly timeline. The return of the lost tribes of Israel and the return of the City of Enoch.
