Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

John 4
Jesus Heals an Official’s Son
43 After the two days he left for Galilee. 44 (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) 45 When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, for they also had been there.
46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.
48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
54 This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba Father,
We Come before You in Prayer
We Know That You Are Omnipotent,
And Could Choose to Speak to us as an Earthquake
We Know That You Are Omnipresent,
And Could Speak to Us as a Mighty Wind.
We Know That You Are Omniscient,
And Could Speak to Us As a Raging Fire.
But Many Times,
You Speak to Us As A Small Still Voice,
A Gentle Whisper,We Must Actually LISTEN.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

The Story of the Royal Official coming to Faith in Jesus brings to mind a story I shared about my own Testimony which involves a celebrity. I shared this several years ago, but there are some new readers on this Thread, and it fits Today's Reading:
As a working Rock Musician (not famous, just able to make a living) I figured I had no need of "religion". I figured if I inserted enough environmental/social/psychological "justice" into my song lyrics, I was somehow righteously doing my duty to humanity. This kind of virtue signaling was quite common in the wake of the 1960's, and it actually was a form of "religion" even as we scorned traditionally religious people. All through the 1970's I was immersed in the counterculture and all that entailed. My idol was Bob Dylan, who, for me, epitomized the epitome of "meaningful songwriting".
Meanwhile, some of my husband's friends had been sharing the gospel with him. My husband was an atheist, but he was too polite to contradict his friends, and, since he had been raised in the Jewish faith, he didn't think that his friends' words were meaningful, and figured "Whatever floats your boat, man." He loved Dylan too, and together we looked forward to his new album, Slow Train Coming.
Together we listened to the album, and were totally astounded by the lyrics. Since we didn't know Scripture, we figured that the lyrics were Dylan's own invention. Imagine comparing Jesus to a "Thief in the Night"! Brilliant! OK, we knew that Dylan had some kind of religious experience, but since it was Dylan, perhaps religion wasn't so lame after all.
My husband and I didn't come to faith until two years later, but I personally credit that album with the first chips in the scales that were covering our eyes.
In this incident from the Gospel of John, we see Jesus performing an important miracle for a "Royal Official". By reaching out to a prominent individual, Jesus may have reached more than just that man and his family. In any case, it showed that Jesus was not a respecter of persons, and although He loved the outcasts and the marginalized, He did not confine His ministry to just them.
When Bob Dylan made a profession of Faith, he caught a lot of flak from BOTH sides. Long-time fans, who considered him a spokesman for their movement, felt betrayed. On the other hand, many Evangelicals began to claim Dylan as THEIR spokesman, and were, in effect, doing the same thing to Bob Dylan that Pete Seeger had done many years earlier. When a celebrity comes to Christ, they are often pounced upon by Believers and "pressed into service". This can be devastating to one's walk with God. My personal advice to my Fellow Believers is that, when a "celebrity" comes to Christ, welcome him, nurture him, and try to forget that this person is a "Star". Don't push him to the front lines and claim him as your latest "conquest". Treat him as you would any new believer. John the Evangelist doesn't even name the celebrity in Today's Story. He just calls him "a certain royal official". The fact that he believed, and that Jesus healed his son, is all we need to know.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America.

Psalm 121
A Song of Ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.
