Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 24

Jesus Has Risen

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then they remembered his words.

9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed Be Thy Name!
We Put Our Complete trust in Your Covenants.
For Your Are Faithful and True To Your Word.
And So, We Are Not Afraid of the Darkness by Night,
Or The Arrow That Flies by Day.
Your Promise is Consistent Throughout Your Word.
We Look Ahead With Joy,
As We Anticipate the Fulfillment of Your Promises,

The lights just flickered, so we may be headed for an outage. Probably because everybody has the A/C on, as, even at 8:45 AM it is already hot. I will keep my commentary brief, and hopefully get it posted before any outages! I really hate it when I write a long thing and then the computer crashes. When that happens, I lose the entire post and have to reconstruct everything from scratch.

There was a book going around when I was in the Ninth Grade called The Passover Plot. All my friends were reading it at the time, but I didn't because i felt it was "against my religion" to read it. My friend Gail, who was Jewish, said that it explained away the Resurrection. Then, I really didn't want to read it! I didn't know much about the Bible at the time, so I had no way to refute what Gail was saying. Imagine how surprised I was to find this book on Wikipedia this morning, and the date given is 1965 when I was in the ninth grade. Not only that, the synopsis is exactly what Gail had said. I remembered the whole thing perfectly, and it fits right in with Today's Reading.

For hundreds of years, scholars and theologians have tried to explain away the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Many of these people still consider themselves "Christians", but deny the very thing that defines Christianity. Mohamed, Buddha, and other revered spiritual leaders did not rise from the dead, and their adherents are not expected to believe that they did. However, to be a Christian, that belief is the center of the whole religion.

Scientific discoveries, even since 1965, have shown us that Roman crucifixion was not survivable. Some guys were left on the cross for days until they expired, and legs were broken to hasten their demise. In Jesus's case, He had been beaten and flogged so much that He had already lost a lot of Blood before he was nailed to the Cross. The medical description of what happens during crucifixion is so brutal that I won't recount it here. There is NO Question at all that Jesus died on that dark day. He did not go into a state of deep mediation, or a coma, or anything else. He Died. The Centurion made sure if it with his spear, and didn't even have to break Jesus's legs to hasten His Death. This fulfilled so many Old testament Prophecies that it is undeniable.

I wish I could speak to Gail now that I have 40 years of reading the Bible under my belt. I could have critiqued the "Passover Plot" so much more effectively!

I am finished writing and the computer has not died. I'm really glad because now I don't have to "resurrect" this entire post.
