Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 22

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[c]

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

I have recently started frequenting a You Tube Channel that is like having your own personal Tour Guide in Jerusalem. It's called Israel MyChannel.

A few days ago, I watched a Video that was a leisurely walk from Mt. Zion to The Mount of Olives. Our Host took us the long way, through the City of David, through the Arab Neighborhood of Sylwa, and along the floor of the Kidron Valley before arriving at Gethsemane. Even with frequent stops and side trips to look at the panorama, the Video was just an hour long. It probably took Jesus and His disciples a little less time to do the walk, even after a big meal and long Passover ceremony. I did the walk in 1984, but it was in the opposite direction, DOWN the Mount of Olives, all the way to the Western Wall. It is easy to imagine Jesus and His disciples making this journey. It was considered a short enough walk so as not to break the Sabbath, but the hills and valleys make it seem longer. In any case, everybody was tired, and it was at night.

Dr. Luke includes details in his Gospel that are left out of the others. He describes a real medical condition called hematidrosis. This is a condition that causes the tiny blood vessels around the sweat glands to burst, mingling blood with the sweat. It is very rare, and only occurs under extreme stress and pressure.

"Gethsemane" means "Olive press". Olives were run through the heavy press three times. The first pressing is called "Virgin Olive Oil" and that was for the Temple, and for anointing kings. The second pressing was Food Grade, used for cooking, medicine, skin care, etc. The third pressing produced an oil for everyday use, for lubrication, and lamps. Every last drop of oil is squeezed out of those olives.

Jesus, born of a Virgin, went through all three "pressings". First of all, He is God and King. He is the Anointed One (That's what "Messiah" means.)

The second pressing produces Food Grade Oil. Jesus is the Bread of Life. The second pressing also produced medicine. Jesus is Our Great Physician.

The third pressing, that produced oil for lamps and everyday use shows us that Jesus is the Light of the World, and is with us even in our daily routines.

The Agony in the Garden demonstrates that Jesus is Sufficient for all our needs: Spiritual, Personal, and Physical.

Dr. Luke, a Greek Physician, gives us a unique perspective on Gethsemane. While Dr. Luke gives us his testimony in beautiful Classical Greek words, there is also a mute witness in Gethsemane to the intensity of Jesus's suffering...a Stone Olive Press. I have seen it with my own eyes.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen.
Because we are made in His image we have the ability to imagine a thing that is not yet physically real. Or to imagine ourselves in a place we have never been. When I imagine myself that stones throw away from Jesus praying that night, knowing now all that came before and since, I can barely hold my emotions in check contemplating what He was going through. I imagine any mere mortal would have simply given up the ghost. It tears at our heart just thinking about it!
Praise God He accomplished what He did!

Psalm 75

To the leader: Do Not Destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

1 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks; your name is near.
People tell of your wondrous deeds.

2 At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
3 When the earth totters, with all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep its pillars steady.
Selah
4 I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast’,
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;
5 do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with insolent neck.’

6 For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up;
7 but it is God who executes judgement,
putting down one and lifting up another.
8 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed;
he will pour a draught from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.
9 But I will rejoice* for ever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
