Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 20
Whose Son Is the Messiah?
41 Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David? 42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
43 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”’[c]
44 David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Wonderful and Magnificent is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
you Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The Most High!
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
And Omnipresent,
You Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from the End.
We Bless Your Name and Thank You,
Most Gracious and Hallowed LORD,
For Your Holy Word,
While Sometimes difficult,
Is Always True and Mighty,
and Cuts to the Heart of Things like a Two Edged Sword!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

When we began this Chapter in Luke, we talked about "GOTCHA QUESTIONS". We spoke of it in reference to the upcoming Presidential Primaries and the torturous debates and interviews leading up to them. Candidates are usually hesitant to discuss actual issues, due to the fact that the "Internet is Forever". Rash statements or even sincere ones that go unfulfilled become part of the candidate's Legacy ("READ MY LIPS..."). Kept Promises are hardly remembered, but the unkept ones persist long after the promiser's retirement or even his death. As Marc Antony said in his Funeral Oration for Caesar:
"The evil that men do lives after them,
The good is often interred with their bones." (William Shakespeare, "Julius Caesar")
Shakespeare wrote his wonderful plays 500 years ago, but we still have them, and quote them frequently. In the First Century, the Psalms of David were already 1000 years old, yet people knew them, and quoted them frequently as well. A quotation from psalms was authoritative, familiar, and usually ended the argument.
Jesus must have been weary of the "Gotcha Questions", absurd scenarios, and conundrums that the Pharisees and Sadducees were bombarding Him with. Scripture tells us that, although Jesus was fully God, He was also fully Man, and experienced all the same frustrations and temptations known to man, yet He was without sin (see the Book of Hebrews for more on that). He knew when a question was a sincere search for knowledge and truth, and when it was a form of entrapment. He always answered accordingly, based on this discernment.
In Today's Reading, we see Jesus posing what seems to be a "Gotcha Question" of His own. He asks the Pharisees about a line from a Psalm of David. Then He poses the question: If the Messiah is the Son of David, how can David call his own son "Lord"? It is indeed a puzzle. It takes more than just a knowledge of Scripture to recognize that, not only is the Messiah the Son of David. He is also The Son of God.
All the Book Knowledge in the World can't do what The Holy Spirit does.

Psalm 132
A Song of Ascents.
1 O Lord, remember in David’s favour
all the hardships he endured;
2 how he swore to the Lord
and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 ‘I will not enter my house
or get into my bed;
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling-place for the Mighty One of Jacob.’
6 We heard of it in Ephrathah;
we found it in the fields of Jaar.
7 ‘Let us go to his dwelling-place;
let us worship at his footstool.’
8 Rise up, O Lord, and go to your resting-place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your faithful shout for joy.
10 For your servant David’s sake
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.
11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
‘One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my decrees that I shall teach them,
their sons also, for evermore,
shall sit on your throne.’
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his habitation:
14 ‘This is my resting-place for ever;
here I will reside, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless its provisions;
I will satisfy its poor with bread.
16 Its priests I will clothe with salvation,
and its faithful will shout for joy.
17 There I will cause a horn to sprout up for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one.
18 His enemies I will clothe with disgrace,
but on him, his crown will gleam.’
