Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 19
The Parable of the Ten Minas
11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once. 12 He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas.[a] ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’
14 “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’
15 “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.
16 “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’
17 “‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’
18 “The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’
19 “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’
20 “Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. 21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’
22 “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’
24 “Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’
25 “‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’
26 “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty and Eternal Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful You Are!
Your Magnificence and Perfection are Overwhelming.
And yet, even more-so, Your Justice,
Your Righteousness,
and Your Profound Holiness!
For It is You Who Made All That Exists,
From the Mightiest Galaxies to the Tiniest Atom.
You Know Us Inside and Out.
Our Hearts and Thoughts belong to You.
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God
Your Promises and Precepts are Eternal.
Your Judgments and Word are Forever True.
There is No Shadow of Turning With You.
You Are Faithful Even When We Are Not.
You ARE The Truth.
Let God be True,
and every man be a liar.
Let others choose whom they may serve,
but as for me and my house,
We Shall Serve You, Abba.
And in serving YOU,
We Choose to Believe and Obey Your Word.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

The Parable of the Ten Minas

While this Parable bears some similarity to the Story of the Talents, it has some different shades of meaning. In the Story of the The Talents, the main character is a Businessman. He goes on a Journey, but we are not told the purpose of the Trip. He distributes the Talents (a HUGE Amount of Money), among his Servants according to their ability. When the Businessman returns and assesses his Servants, he knows that he had been correct in giving the more capable servants more than the one who just buried the Talent in the ground. The meaning is so clear that the monetary value "Talent" has come to mean a unique capability that is inborn, in the Arts, Sciences, Sports, or Business. These "Talents" are worthless if they are just buried in the ground. They have to be nurtured, educated, directed, and practiced in order to grow. People aren't just "Talented". Their excellent performance not only shows a gift from birth, but also years of study. The Story of the Talents is a Parable about God's Gifts, how we should receive and develop them, and Life in General.
The Story of the Ten Minas is different. First of all, the main character is a king who has to go to a distant land to receive his authority. While this is incomprehensible to us, it would have struck a chord with the audience in First Century Judea. It was how Herod The Great got his power, by hobnobbing with Octavian (who later became Caesar Augustus) in Rome. It was only after the Battle of Actium that Herod started developing a friendship with Octavian. Prior to the Battle, Herod had been pals with Antony and Cleopatra, but they turned out to be the losers. And so, he switched his allegience to the winner.
Herod The Great was replaced by several of his sons (also named Herod) who were just as opportunistic and cruel as their dear old dad. Jesus even called one of the younger Herods a "Fox", and it wasn't a compliment. We have a clue that the king in this story was not heroic, by the way he dealt with those who were discontent with his leadership.
In another story twist, the three servants are given the Ten Minas each get the same amount. The increase comes from their activities, rather than the initial amount. While we are all born with different Talents, some more than others, we are all given an equal measure of Faith. "Whosoever" in John 3:16 means just that. Equal Opportunity does not mean Equal Outcome. Perhaps this is why the lazy servant is punished so harshly, as well as the mutterers and insurrectionists.
The most telling part of this Passage is the first line. The Disciples are asking Jesus if He is going to establish His Kingdom RIGHT THEN AND THERE. They still see Him as the Conquering Messiah, but not as the Suffering Servant of Isaiah.
This Passage may seem harsh to our ears, but remember, the Total Destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple was less than 40 years in the future when Jesus spoke these words. Prophecy is not always sunny and cheerful. Most prophecy is, in fact, a WARNING.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America.

I often wondered with this parable as well as the one with the Talent, what would happen if one invested it in the stock market and now owed money.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Psalm 11
To the leader. Of David.
1 In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to me,
‘Flee like a bird to the mountains;*
2 for look, the wicked bend the bow,
they have fitted their arrow to the string,
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart.
3 If the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?’
4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes behold, his gaze examines humankind.
5 The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked,
and his soul hates the lover of violence.
6 On the wicked he will rain coals of fire and sulphur;
a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For the Lord is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.
