Catholics will not be able to attend the traditional Mass in the Vatican, which has marked the annual pilgrimage for over a decade.
VATICAN CITY (LifeSiteNews) –– For the first time since its inception, the international traditional Mass pilgrimage held in Rome annually will not be granted permission for a traditional Mass inside St. Peter’s Basilica.
Since it began in 2011, the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage, now known as the Ad Petri Sedem pilgrimage, has drawn thousands of Catholics to Rome from across the globe out of love for the traditional Mass and sacraments. With the exception of disruption caused during the COVID-19 restrictions, the pilgrimage has always included the celebration of a traditional Mass inside St. Peter’s Basilica.
The details of previous celebrations of the pilgrimage’s Masses inside the Vatican are recounted by Fœderatio Internationalis Una Voce (FIUV) president Dr. Joseph Shaw, who detailed the pilgrimage’s gradual progression from using side chapels around the Basilica in 2007 to celebrating Mass at the Altar of the Throne.
Such was the position last year, with an estimated 1,700 people gathering in Rome and worshipping in the Church’s traditional rites at the Altar of the Chair of St. Peter. Monsignor Marco Agostini – part of the Vatican’s Secretariat of State and one of the Papal Masters of Ceremonies – celebrated the Mass for pilgrims in the 2022 event, although prior pilgrimages had been marked by bishops or cardinals offering the Vatican liturgy.
However, in an update provided by the organizers in recent days, news of the cessation of the traditional Mass for the pilgrimage in the Vatican has been provided. Referencing a “a significant and sensitive change” – the pilgrimage runs Friday, October 27 through Sunday, October 29 – the organizers revealed the traditional Mass could not take place.

That gold etc lying around in the vatican needs to be sold for food for the hungry ...
The pope could feed all those people he claims are so much better and more worthy than Christians ...
This thread has nothing to do with wealth or the poor. Why must you break up a complete non sequitur in order to attack the Catholic Church? A similar argument was made by Judas.
break up should be bring up
I wasnt attacking the Catholic Church ...
I agree if they wish to pray in Latin they should ...
BTW Im not holding the purse ...
will noone rid us of this meddlesome priest??? feh...
Just a question from a non-Catholic.
What difference does it make if Mass is in Latin?
If someone wants Mass in Latin, English, Spanish or whatever language why not?
Why target just one language?
I don’t understand.
Judas Iscariot made a similar claim.
That's really poor company you're keeping.
It isn’t just a different language, they changed most of the mass, putting the focus more on the community and less on the worship of God.
I am thumb tapping on a phone, so I will keep it short. The Latin aspect is only one of numerous changes introduced in the Novus Ordo (vernacular) Mass. All of the changes were in the direction away from the worship vertical and towards the fellowship horizontal. One of the good things about having the Mass in Latin is that it makes it MUCH harder to play games with the words in the vernacular translations.
Until ~1970, Latin was the only language of the Mass in the Roman branch of the Catholic Church. (There are other branches which traditionally speak Greek, Aramaic, and a few other near east languages. We're not talking about them.) There are a few inportant aspects to what we today call the Latin Mass:
1) It's (duh!) in Latin. Everywhere. It unifies the Catholic Church around the world. Or, at least, it did ...
2) It's a significantly different text from the Mass that is, today, offered primarily in English in the United States. This new Mass was introduced in ~1970. The older text much more clearly expresses Catholic theology in several ways.
3) The revolution in 1970 changed more than just the Mass; it also changed the way other sacraments were celebrated. The old forms of these liturgies are also retained by those who retain the "Latin Mass"
4) The revolutionaries reject the theology explicitly and clearly expressed by the "Latin Mass" and the liturgical forms that accompany it. Bergoglio is one of those revolutionaries.
I hope this is clear, and not too caught up in jargon.
Exactly. Why the blazes not?!? The false pope goes out of his way to destroy the Church.
“What difference does it make if Mass is in Latin?” Good question. A. Big difference between Old and New rite. Old rite has the warm graces from St. Peter. The New rite has the cold boredom of non-Catholics in 1950. Proof: the favorite part of the New rite for many is the exchanging of the sign of peace, since the friendly exchange seems to be the only warm part of the New rite. Personally, I think it is rude to interrupt my prayer and then stop and say ‘hi’ to my neighbor. Bergoglio is a freak who stole the 2013 Enclave. https://www.latinmassdir.org/
While I understand the symbolism, maybe have the Mass at St. John Lateran...True seat of the Church...
Christ will have his vengeance on the Vatican.
