Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 17
Sin, Faith, Duty
17 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. 3 So watch yourselves.
“If your brother or sister[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”
5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.
7 “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Blessed is Your Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
Teach us To Stand Firm,
And Always look To You For Our Sustenance.
Keep us From Doing Whatever Seems Right In Our own Eyes,
Instead of looking to You For Our Answers.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 83
A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.
1 O God, do not keep silence;
do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
2 Even now your enemies are in tumult;
those who hate you have raised their heads.
3 They lay crafty plans against your people;
they consult together against those you protect.
4 They say, ‘Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more.’
5 They conspire with one accord;
against you they make a covenant—
6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of the children of Lot.
Selah
9 Do to them as you did to Midian,
as to Sisera and Jabin at the Wadi Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at En-dor,
who became dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, ‘Let us take the pastures of God
for our own possession.’
13 O my God, make them like whirling dust,*
like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest,
as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane.
16 Fill their faces with shame,
so that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;
let them perish in disgrace.
18 Let them know that you alone,
whose name is the Lord,
are the Most High over all the earth.

Here in New England, we have quite a few historic buildings. A lot of these are Wind or Water Powered Grist Mills. One in a nearby Town has been refurbished as a sort of Community Center. Situated on a Mill Pond with a little stream gushing past it, the Mill used to grind grain to make flour for the region. The building, which has rough-hewn beams and a peaked roof, is very picturesque and is the host for Arts and Crafts Shows, Community Yard Sales, and similar activities.
I asked a Town Official how far would the restoration go? Would they replace the Water Wheel, which had long since rotted and was sitting in a heap by the stream? What about the Millstone? What happened to that? The Official pointed down to the stream below.
"The Water Wheel will have to be built from scratch," he said. "The Millstone, though, is a lost cause. It sank into the mud and weighs so much that we will never be able to extract it. See that little bit of granite sticking up out of the stream? THAT'S the Millstone."
There was a reason Millstones had to be so heavy. Wheat and other grains have a very hard husk around them to protect the seeds inside. Those seeds are what get turned into flour. By damming the stream and making a millpond, the Miller is able to get enough water pressure to turn the wheel. The energy is then transferred by gears to the millstone, which is so heavy that it needs the endless energy of the running water to turn it, and grind the grain.
In the Old Testament Book of Judges, the Judge Samson was put to work turning a millstone. This same humiliating punishment was inflicted upon the mythical Conan the Barbarian, and, just last week, I saw a similar "event" played out in The "World's Strongest Man" contest. (That was playing on a TV behind the stage in a Sports Complex that had an Open Mike Nite). While the contestants were incredibly strong, and excelled in the other events, the Conan's Wheel Event was a humiliating defeat for most of them. Medics and Handlers ran up to several of the contestants and assisted them in limping away from the field.
When Jesus spoke of a Millstone, He was using a Literary Device known as "Hyperbole". This is the symbolic use of an exaggeration to make a point, and Jesus used it to illustrate the total EVIL behind causing an innocent child (or a brand new believer) to falter in their faith. This includes Child Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Propaganda, Leading People Astray, Abortion, Ritual Abuse, Torture, Enslavement, Neglect, and other forms of sin against children. The idea of a Millstone being hung around one's neck, and then being thrown into the sea may seem like "overkill" to some, but sins against Children are THAT Evil.
The way things are going in this world, I am thinking that, back when I had a few extra dollars, I should have invested in a Millstone Factory. It seems as though we will be needing a lot of them.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
