The word for day can mean an indeterminate span or era,,
unless the context defines it differently and actually gives a description of the day as is used in genesis chapter one in seven places.
Gen 1:5 - And God called
the light Day,

is self identified as

People misread the Bible.
When the six days of creation starts, the earth was already here. The “six day” creation period starts later.
Does anyone really think that there was never such a thing as light until Genesis 1:3.
Darkness was referred to in Genesis 1:1 which presupposes the concept of light. So whatever the process was, the darkness was dispelled — on Earth — because the whole universe is inky black darkness except when you encounter a star.
God did not create the land, he just rearranged it, etc. He created it in bygone eras, commanding (ordaining) a process billions of years ago. He gets down to the literal act of creation in that six day period when life forms are brought forth.
The first chapter of Genesis is strictly a sweeping literary endeavor to introduce God into history with his creation of mankind. It is not an attempt to explain, scientifically, the nuts and bolts of creation.

Chuck was a naval officer, an engineer,
ran a company that provided some computer stuff for the b1 ( or b2?) bomber
and was a Calvary Chapel preacher.
The Whole genesis commentary is hours long. Mostly how science proves genesis account.

Misread the Bible so you also misread my post. I mentioned in the post that he created the Earth in bygone eras. The six-day creation starts AFTER the Earth is described, as some say it was destroyed during Satan’s rebellion. It does not say, I will create dry land, it says he will gather the dry land. It does not say he will create water, it says he divides the water that was already here before the six days started.
I did not mention science at all as operative in the creation.
It makes sense to me from what I read and see. If that is the gap theory....then that is how it looks to me.
Could God create it all in finished form at once. I suppose so, but did He?
We don’t have to all agree on this.
Because some like me think that the earth is older than 6,000 years does not mean that we believe in evolution.
Evolution is ridiculous.
The Bible clearly says that death entered the world through sin. - Adam’s sin.
Therefore, to a real Bible-believing Christian, “evolution” wouldn’t be possible as it involves much time and much death over time..

Exegesis isn’t your strong point, but that’s okay , keep working on it and I wish you the best.
The gap theory has been debated extensively. You can find many arguments both for and against it. I am keeping an open mind. I still prefer the argument that God created a fully mature universe. It just looks billions of years old.
Was the first Bristlecone Pine created with all it’s rings?

I was created “of its kind” ie. with enough genetic information to allow it to evolve to deal with an ever changing environment. Not random mutation. I think all the useful genetic information that ever has or ever will exist has been there from the beginning in the biosphere.

Some ‘ facts’ aren’t.
Tree rings, 1 per year, myth.
As a silviculturist, I learned that trees can have more than 1 growth cycle/ ring in a year.
a tree can sometimes make two growth rings in a season if conditions are very dry in the early part of the year followed by heavy rains in the summer and a late fall.
“Scientists” play the same game with ice melt layers to gauge time.
The layers are freeze thaw cycles, and that can happen multiple times in one day.
Same game with erosion / depth to determine age of dirt.
Their errosion rate was based on a study of niagrafalls , and that estimated amount of errosion per year has since been shown to be way off.
