Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 16

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified,
Sanctified,
and Hallowed Be Your Most Holy and Glorious Name!
You Are So Holy and Worthy of Praise and Worship,
We are Overwhelmed by Your Glory!
It is You Who Have Made The Earth and All it Contains,
From the tiniest of Creatures,
To the Greatest of the Mountains,
Forests and Deserts.
It is You Who Command the Motion of the Stars,
The Galaxies,
And the Great Singularities of Time and Space,
And it is You Who Create new Life in the Secret Place of a Mother's Womb.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Tippy The Aussie Cattle Dog usually sleeps through the night in her crate. At about 5:00 AM, she lets me know that she is awake and ready to go to work herding cattle (Our Three-mile daily hike). Rabbits and deer are not cattle, but she chases and herds them as if they were. She NEVER barks in the night. Except that last night, she did. I put on my slippers and checked all the doors and windows. They were all secure. There was nothing going on outside that I could see. I heard no thunder or fireworks, so it wasn't that. Still Tippy was visibly upset, and guarding the front door, which is across the street from some woods. This morning, she was her old self again, waking me up at 5:00 to go to "work".

Last Friday, two students were late for their lesson. I sat in their living room for about ten minutes waiting for them to come home from school. Their Mom told me that the School Bus had to sit idle for ten minutes as the children looked out the windows at a black bear sniffing around the bus stop. This was the Infamous South Shore Bear, who appears in yards and fields in a large area extending from just south of Boston all the way to Cape Cod. He is a young bear, and not huge as bears go, but he is STILL a bear. This was the first time he was sighted in our neighborhood. I am wondering if it was the South Shore bear that upset Tippy so much last night.

After teaching the students who had been on the School Bus (Middle School) I went to my next home in the same neighborhood to some Elementary School kids who had been on a different bus. I blurted out, "Did you see the bear?", and was immediately silenced by a "look" from the father of the two kids.

"That was a LONG time ago." he said, giving me a cautionary wink.

Evidently, he didn't want his children frightened by the thought of a bear in their neck of the woods, so I shut up.

I didn't agree, as i think all kids should be aware of danger, but I do not interfere with parents. I am there to teach MUSIC, not Situational Awareness. Anyway, reports are that the bear has move further North. But he may have stopped by my place for a visit last night.

The Story of the Rich Man and the Beggar is only reported in the Book of Luke. It is listed as a Parable, but is unusual because the Beggar has a real name: Lazarus. This is not the same Lazarus who was raised from the dead, and it is probably not the Lazarus who invited Jesus to dinner. "Lazarus" or "Eliezar" was a very popular name at the time. Tradition gives the Rich Man a name (Divas), but that just means "Rich Man", so his name remains a mystery. Stories about real people cite names. Usually, a parable doesn't. It might go so far as to say, "a certain man," but that is about the extent of it. By naming the beggar, Jesus is perhaps hinting that this really happened and was continuing in the spiritual realm even as He spoke. Whether it was a parable or an Exposition, we won't know till the end of time, but in either case, the story teaches a number of things.

1. The Afterlife: Jesus, in this story assumes that there is an Afterlife. This also assumes that the wicked are punished and the innocent are protected.

2. The Great Chasm: The story teaches that the Dead are not allowed to contact the Living, nor are the Living allowed to contact the Dead.

3. Ample Warning: God has given us ample warning with His Word. The choice to believe or not to believe lies with the individual.

There are many reasons that people make that wrong choice. Some may find the thought of an Afterlife too scary. They don't want to get upset or frighten the children with this warning. Nevertheless, the Bear is out there.

Some may believe in Reincarnation. However this Parable/True Story indicates that neither Jesus, His Disciples, nor the Jewish Population at large believed in that. Reincarnation is an Eastern idea that has found its way into Western Culture, and even though Herod thought that Jesus was actually John the Baptist raised from the dead, it showed that he believed in "Resurrection", not "Reincarnation". While some may argue that John The Baptist was a "reincarnation" of Elijah, it is only stated in Scripture that John came "in the spirit and power" of Elijah, not as a reincarnated Elijah. Anyway...I digress. There was no way the Rich Man could "come back" and warn his brothers.

The South Shore bear is not a figure of my imagination. Since everybody has a Smart Phone these days, there are pictures of the Bear all over twitter and Facebook. I subscribe to neither, so I can't post a picture, but I will look and see if I can post a link downthread.

But, even without pictures, you know I'm telling the truth. All my stories are true, even the ones including Tornadoes, Volcanoes, Helicopters, Harleys, and Bears.

Oh My.

Come and pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Here’s what the local NEWS outlets had to say:

https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/boo-boo-the-black-bear-norwell/

And, it seems like the Bear has a name, just like Lazarus.

LOL. Yep. By giving the bear a cute little name, he is no longer an apex predator, but a cute, cuddly, cartoon Bear.

King of like a cuddly little red devil logo on some spicy candy.

Psalm 46

To the leader. Of the Korahites. According to Alamoth. A Song.

1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present* help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
Selah

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of the city;* it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
6 The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.*
Selah

8 Come, behold the works of the Lord;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 ‘Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.’
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.*
Selah
